Offensive Coaching Staff Poll

OC - Doman Out Anae in - 1 addition - Net +1

TE - Reynolds retired - 1 subtraction - Net 0

OL - Weber to USU - 1 subtraction - Net -1

TBD - Atuaia - 1 addition - Net 0

TBD - 2 J - 1 addition - Net +1

Traitor - ARod - No Effect

Doman, Dupaix, and Cahoon rumored to be gone which would cover the 3 adds and 2 subtractions and leave 2 to be hired.

It is possible that these three guys, Doman, Dupaix, and Cahoon are not all gone given that other than the Doman demotion, nothing has been announced. At least one of them has to be let go.

Other candidates have been rumored.

Bottom line - given the ARod debacle, BYU still needs to name 2 position coaches.

Who will the other 2 coaches be? Pick 2.

I picked IDK and Other Specify - specifying IDK for my secobd choice too.

IDK. It is that simple.

I want Doman and Cahoon at this point unless we can get Detmer or someone really exciting to replace them.

Sort of a peculiar poll. Who do i want would ave been more interesting. Who will it be? You forgot a response of " none of these Guys. ". That may have had a higher predictive value. But we'll see. Hard to see this future. The force is clouded.

Now that A-Rod is out is Paul Peterson an option again?? Adding Detmer and keeping Cahoon would be my wish. I'd also try to hire Doman as the recruiting coordinator if he'd accept that position

The "Other - Please Specify" choice should cover the none of these guys pick as does IDK in a differwnt way. Those were my two choices.

Any hot rumors out there?

There are only 2 openings. Can't hire 3. Recruiting coordinator is an additional duty assigned to one of the position coaches. Dupaix had that duty last season - Awkward. But, BYU seems to be holding its recruits even with all of the coaching changes and uncertainties.

I would think that Paul Peterson is out. If he had Three interviews, some with GAs, I would think that he got the thumbs up by Bronco but didn't pass the interviews. I might be wrong.

But I really think none of these will be in. With what Cahoon has had to endure without a clear or apparent reason related to lack of performance; and Doman, facing the ignomy and shame of demotion; and Dupaix made redundant; Detmer not wanting a D1 coaching lifestyle or to play second fiddle to Anae (just a hunch); and certainly not Chad for reasons I have stated in other threads, though he wold be Awesome--it's NONE of these guys.

NCAA just changed the rules to also allow a non-coach recruiting coordinator so beauso79 is correct.

No Detmer please. No experience (less than DuPaix or Max Hall), unproven.

The Detmer comparison to the other two coaches isn't relevant. Doman had a couple of years in the NFL, Dupaix a couple and Cahoon none. Detmer's initial role was as a backup with opportunity to play when starter injured. The latter part of his career he was basically a QB coach in uniform. He dissected the opponents defensive tendencies and guided the QB on what to look out for and take advantage of identified weaknesses. None of the other coaches ever had this experience as they were primarily players not advisors. Detmer has done a credible job with his HS team and produced some college talent. He would be an instant asset to the team and have lots of cred. Questions are whether he wants to leave his very nice setting for loyalty to support the Y and coach Anae in establishing a top 15 power, and whether he would be given the leeway to impart his influence and add to the program.

Deeps Shades of BS claims Max Hall will get it if Detmer turns it down. IDK if Deep Shades really knows anything. But they seem to be the only people saying anything right now - other than the crickets chirping.

If he could work from home in Texas and do it part time.

But here is the issue

If Detmer does not have a burning passion to do it, it probably will not work out. I hate the thought of any tarnish on his BYU legacy. Do not come Ty unless you have a burning desire to do it.

Ty Detmer- Recruiting

Those appear to be the best hires we could still hope for at this point. Though Cahoon (WRs), Max Hall (QBs), Doman (recruiting) wouldn't be too shabby either.

If I had my pick, it would be a combination of Mar's suggestions for coaches:

WR - Cahoon

QB - Detmer

Recruiting - Doman

Maybe the lull in the news is due to continued conversation with Detmer, which could be a sign that he is coming. That's my speculation.
