Expect the new staff to be in place by Thursday

BYU is hosting the new recruits, along with some uncommitted kids this weekend. It would be foolish to not have the entire O staff in place by this visit so kids can see who the staff is and interact with them this weekend.

If the staff is not known by then, I think it would be a mistake.

This one hasn't. I think it's been better handled than previous ones.

Waiting weeks to fire Cahoon/DuPaix (on their 2nd year, and being improvements from the guys they replaced)? Hiring a non-coach to coach RBs? STILL not knowing what Doman is doing? All right before LOI day? Losing recruits because of it?

Regardless of whether we have an announced staff by Thursday, I think it would have been an even bigger error to have coaches host the recruits only to can the coaches after the fact.

It will be interesting to see how the most vocal fans react to these coaching changes. I suspect that with major shuffles like this on offense that there will be a very short honeymoon. Especially with a familiar face running the offense.

I think if there is a perceived upward trend by the offense early in the season then the fans will embrace them and give them time but if the trends appears to be flat or downward there will be no bonding going on. The most passionate fans will be quoting the red queen with about the same amount of compassion.

I am officially completely unhappy with this whole thing. Anae was awful in 2010, and before then was awful against good teams. The two areas of strength on the offense have had their coaches replaced. The only good thing that has happened is that Weber is gone.

Completely screwed another opportunity to improve.

Heaps was awful in 2010 and fans decided that Anae was "washed-up" and predictable. Give Anae a decent QB and he's a solid OC, just like every OC out there.

Plus Anae wanted Riley. It was Doman who was a Heaps guy in 2010 and he was the one calling the plays at the end of the 2010 season - when Heaps was playing well. Part of the reason to promote Doman was his great rapport with Heaps.

Funny how now it was the complete opposite.

So, let me divorce myself from any past preferences and see if I have this straight. Anyone feel free to correct the record, except for Mr. "axe-to-grind Bib".

Anae wanted Riley?

Doman wanted Heaps? Till when?

Doman called plays until toward the end of 2010? Has that ever been verified?

If true, then Doman is responsible for the the 2010 Utah debacle, not Anae? Has this ever been verified?

It has now been verified that Reynolds and Anae were very contentious in 2010 and Anae left, correct?

So who did Reynolds want n 2010?

Who did Rynolds want as qb in 2011?

Was Reynolds in fact jealous tht Anae got the OC job and not him?

Did Reynolds want Doman to take over as the new OC?

Or did Reynolds want the OC job in 2011?

Clearly the players wanted Riley in 2010, 2011, and 2012. Right?

So, my main question is: If Reynolds wanted Riley and Doman wanted Heaps how did Doman curry favor with Reynolds?

Just straight up asking. No pot stirring or set up for something argumentative later.

The point is, I believe, that fans have all sorts of theories in order to fit their world view. Fans didn't like Anae, but they liked Heaps and Doman in 2010, so fans invented this theory that Anae wanted Riley and Doman wanted Heaps. When BYU did poorly at the end of 2010, it was Anae who was calling the plays, but when they did well, fans invented another theory that they had turned over play calling to Doman.

There was never any truth behind the rumors, just fans trying to invent scenarios that matched their preconceived notions.

Yes, i was one of those. What a mess that was in 2010.

It would be interesting if not an ugly look back, to run a survey to see which year CC readers think was the most screwed up year offensively. I think I will run that.
