Coach Cahoon?

Greg Wrubell reporting the Cahoon is out. What happened, I thought he was doing well?

Wrubell reported that Joe Dupaix is also out. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Have no idea.



Complete conjecture on my end, but it could be that either Bronco didn't think he was performing well or Anae wants his own coach. Or, Cahoon could be leaving voluntarily, but I thought we heard previously that wasn't the case.

To me, the loss of Cahoon and Dupaix is not a good thing. Dupaix especially was a good recruiter. As always, we shall see.

To me dismissing Cahoon is a huge mistake given the results he's shown and the low price tag on his services. If he's out, I would much prefer it be on Cahoon's terms rather than a dismissal. Not to mention it's never a good idea to give the Governor a reason to dislike you.

Who's going to coach the WR's now??

Do we actually know if Cahoon is a good WR coach? I was excited about the hire and it seems that he has a lot of knowledge to pass on to the WR's. But, have we ever actually heard if he was doing well or not as a coach? Doesn't seem like he made much headway with Apo. Hoffman obviously is doing well, but is that due to Cahoon?

Agreed! He may have been the best offensive coach. How does Hoffman and the others feel about this?

They certainly were doing better than they were in 2010.



To me this is not a good thing. Is it too late for Hoffman to change his mind?

Agreed... Cahoon (and his formerly Herbert wife) have made it pretty clear they want to live in Utah County and he'd like to coach football. Kind of limited options there (UVU Wolverine football, anyone?). If it's his terms, maybe he has other opportunities that offer better lifestyle than D1 coaching.

I've wondered that too. Hoffman has gotten insanely great, but Apo has digressed. No other receiver besides Hoffman has really shown great improvement. But the offense has been so bad, it's hard to say.

I would really love to see byu bring in detmer. it seems to me that not only is he knowledgeable but from what you here from nfl players he was very good at teaching that knowledge as well.



i am not a huge fan of bringing old players just for he sake of bringing in old players. but detmer brings some positive vibes and I think his experience 'coaching' would probably benefit the team.

When a new coaching staff moves in, changes happen. May not have been performance oriented at all. Just that the new Ocoordinator wanted to hire someone else. I am not going to voice my opinion on the changes until I see who replaces the guys who are leaving.

If its true what i heard that Anae accepted the job on condition of him picking all his guys--which would make sense bc he took Atuaia out of a white collar BYU job instead of keeping Joe D, which by all reports offerred significant value as a recruiter-- all this makes sense.

Dupaix and apparently Cahoon are not Anae's guys. He wants unity and no more dispersions. Not that they were a source of that, just that Anae wants his guys and BYU or TH is not getting in the way, saying, hey these guys are BYU guys and you need to use them; Which would be and has been a BYU thing.

And if its true as has been reported that Anae and Reynolds had differences, feuds, Etc, and Anae left on his own because of the difficulties, but now was offered the job back, presumably bc BYU's offense was a mess and because the Poly pipeline was drying up (?) and the Poly community were being swayed by Vai S, Then Anae pretty much got to write his ticket, which included outing even Cahoon. This move is more surprising, it seems, because DuPaix was expendable and redundant given Atuaia was the first visible hire. But why Cahoon? Was he loyal to Doman in some way? Or does Anae have anther of HIS own guys.

On the whole I don't fault Anae, even though its a little bit of a bummer to see Cahoon go. Dispersions, collusion, divisions can really take any organization down or At least be a hindrance.

I would agree. Heaps targeted Apo as much and probably more than Hoffman. Also a mistake by Jake. But Apo couldn't make the adjustment/separation/effectiveness to work in the Riley offense. And of course those horrible WR quick screens were Domans version off Anaes predictable runs up the middle.

I hope Detmer doesn't come back as a coach. It seems like in coaching you have about a 5%-10% chance of going out with more favorability than when you came in. I don't want Detmer's legacy to be tainted which odds are that's what would happen. Though if he does come back I'd be excited for the program but concerned for him.

As for Detmer, I've always felt he would never come back as a scrub coach. And I have felt that Bronco never hires a bigger star than himself. So it won't be under Bronco's time here.

Detmer was in charge of that offense when he played. I doubt he would join something he couldn't be in charge of. So, that means at least OC. He has his system just like Anae had his and Doman had his.

I hope the coaching changes are Anae putting his stamp on the program. I want someone in charge. I want coaching leadership on the offensive side of the ball - which I don't think we've had the last three years.
