The Future of the Bowls

This probably isn't possible, but who wouldn't love a tiered bowl system?



My dream situation:



8 team playoff for the championship



top 5 non playoff bowls get their pick of the teams ranked 9-18

- you'd have to decide the order of bowl picks, but it would ensure a high probability teams still going to bowls that make geographic/demographic sense for the ratings



You could have 4 or 5 tiers like that. Now, teams and fanbases still have something to strive for and be excited about if they're not in the playoff, and bowls get a little more diversity in the teams they'll have playing in them every year. You get better and fresher matchups and ESPN has endless fodder for the talking heads to discuss ad nasuem.



The money flows, the fans love it. What's not to love?

My dream is that there would be an auction for the teams on national tv. The highest bidding bowl can pick their team from remaining teams and create their matchups. You want a team then you have to outbid the other bowls. No bowl tieins. The money bid would go to the teams that are picked.

LOVE the idea. Will never ever ever happen, kind of like euro-soccer-style relegation in the NFL or NBA.
