GunkTomorrow's game against Santa Clara could be tough. SC played us close at home last year and they have the potential to be quite good.
Although SC hasn't beaten anyone of "note," we're all familiar with how they played Duke until the final min. Gonzaga was able to edge out a 6 point win last week when playing SC on their home court. So it will be interesting to see if we can perform at the same or better level.
Big guy to watch on SC is senior guard Kevin Foster. He ranks in the Top 50 of college players and went off for 29 points against both Duke and Gonzaga. Good news here is Carlino is already making a name for himself as a top defender when it comes to guarding the WCC's leading guards. The Carlino and Foster matchup with be interesting and I'm curious to see who comes out on top.
After Foster, it's 6'9" senior forward Marc Trasolini. Against Gonzaga, Trasolini shipped in 19 points. Davies will likely be on Trasolini.
SC has a 7 footer who averages about 13min a game. He doesn't score much, but is a body we'll need to be aware of.
Junior guard Evan Roquemore (14 pts/game) is their third best player. We'll have to keep an eye on him and with two guards capable of scoring our front court is going to have to be on their best defensive game.
After Foster, Trasolini and Roquemore, things drop off for the SC.
Key to the game will be Carlino and Zylstra containing Foster and Roquemore. Haws will need to carry a big load for us shooting wise. Davies will need to be solid down low and if Carlino can keep up his D and chip in some buckets, I think we got this.
SC is a poor rebounding team. They rank 156th in rebounding while we're at 16th. They are 132nd in shooting with BYU at 89th. We're tied, nationally at assists/game. We score a bit more than they do per game.
