Roderick as QB Coach?

As per Kevin Graham, 1320 kfan. If true, sounds like Doman will not take the QB coach position.

Why on earth would we hire a former reciever to be our QB coach. That would be ridiculous.

Roderick is known for being an amazing recruiter. for that reason a lone i would be very happy with that hire.

We'd hire him because coaching isn't as much about Xs and Os as coaches like to pretend it is. It's about communicating with players and getting them in positions to succeed. Football isn't rocket science.

And he would still probably have Max Hall as a GA for another year to ease him into the position. Yet I too wonder how good a coach can teach QB techniques if he has never been a QB. Jay Drew said basically that it was a fat chance he'd come to BYU because BYU couldn't afford his $200K/yr.

Right. And selecting QBs who have that mentality-football isnt rocket science-has really worked the last three years. Oooohhhhh, I get it, that's why our QBs recently have a hard time looking off WRs, making reads, etc,; not to mention prefer running into people at full speed or getting run into at full speed as opposed to getting rid of the ball or throwing to a dump down. Greg Welch tweets a link that confirms the rumor that Doman is out at BYU - as in, not remaining on staff.

One more quick twitter-bit: Jay Drew claims that based on things he has heard, he doubts Roderick has been offered a job to coach qbs

Wasn't A-Rod thought to be responsible for "leaking" the "possible drinking" with Manti Teo during his visit to BYU? I thought he was in on another situation like that as well with poisoning a BYU recruiting effort.



Maybe he can further submarine our recruiting from the inside? It's a trick from Kwitt.



(Although if I was A-Rod I wouldn't inform Kwitt until I showed up at BYU spring ball to give him as small as a hiring pool as possible to replace him with. That trick last year with highing BJ after signing day was dirty.)

Hall will be the QB coach.



Hall was a player under Anae's system. If I am Anae, that would be my preference as opposed to the formerly unsuccessful OC with his own ideas. Hall is well liked by the players and is cheap.



Only thing Hall is lacking is experience. I think Hall could be just as good a recruiter as Doman. Certainly was a better QB than Doman.

if roderick was willing to come to byu i would put him at receivers coach and have max do the qbs. roderick is a great recruiter i want him if we can get him.

Yeah, and Norm Chow should never have been a QB coach, since he played Oline. Nor should Mike Holmgren, because he never played QB. And jeeze, no way Andy Reid should have coached QBs in teh NFL since he was an Oline player.

To further illustrate, Chip Kelly at Oregon never played college football. Neither did Mike Leach. Neither did Weiss. Or Paul Johnso at GT. Or several others.

I don't know Law. I played OL/DL and I think teaching the fine points of being a QB and a receiver would be very difficult and it seems like you would have quite an advantage to have gone through the challenge. As noted, it's been done before--and successfully, but I don't know if believing that would be the range of "dumb".

If Roderick comes over, and Dupaix stays on staff, move Dupaix to QB coach (he played the position and has coached it), and move Roderick to WR coach. I kind of wish ARod would have been the OC instead of Anae. I think a complete change would have done everyone some good.
