James Lark not a fan of Doman?

I'm not trying to read too much into this but what do you think?

jlark_3: Max Hall can coach. I developed more this season from his coaching than my last two. He knows the game and knows how to coach technique.

So that begs the question about who developed Hall.

The context was about Hall. Just talking him up is all. Nothing more.

I like Doman and would like to see him remain on staff. He did a good job with Beck and Hall. I think his QB development struggled once he got promoted and didn't have as much time to spend with the QB's. If he leaves, my first choice would be Ty detmer (I don't know who wouldn't have him as the top guy) and the Max Hall.

I take it as a sign that Doman is less likely to stay than we thought, and Lark is throwing an endorsement out there for Hall to get a look at a promotion.

He probably shouldn't be saying anything. I don't think he was taking a jab at doman though. he was just defending and sticking up for hall.

I am not sure the players really know what is going on. I played basketball with apo wednesday night and he seemed to think Doman wasn't going anywhere.

Considering it essentially took a transfer and two injuries to get Lark to break into the two-deep, it's not surprising he's not a huge fan of how his position coach handled his time at BYU.

When did his uncle coach him?

And every time I have heard posted that Doman developed Hall and Beck, I cringe. Those two guys had a lot of outside help from early in peewee league.

Well, Hawk. credit you regarding Doman wanting Riley. And that he needed to be canned as the OC. I heard an interview of Brady Poppinga on 1320 Kfan today. He was very overt about saying BD was not doing a good job. He specifically commented on the bowl game and the four WR quick screens while in press coverage.

Gosh, Hawk, you and those selfish boosters seemed to agree that BD needed to go. ;-).

I know who his uncle is, I want to know at what time Hall was coached by him. Don't give me the "they talked at turkey bowl" nonsense. We know Hall was coached by his high school coaches, we know he was coached by Doman and we know he got coaching in the NFL. If we are going to give credit where it is due, Doman did a good job with Beck and Hall (and even Heaps who looked like he was improving at the end of 2010). Once He was promoted to OC the QB's quit progressing. I think he had too much on the table with being an OC, a QB coach and a Bishop. Some guys just can't handle that type of work load, while some guys seem to be able to thrive on it.

I give Doman credit with Beck, who really needed Doman whispering things in his ear to help his confidence.

I really don't know how much coaching/development Doman did with Hall. Hall was already pretty polished as a sophomore and over the rest of Hall's career, we really didn't see much improvement from him in areas where you'd expect a QB coach to exert a lot of influence--Hall still forced throws and his technique was never cleaned up. From an outsider's perspective, I can't tell if Hall would have played the same way regardless of who the QB coach was or if Doman developed Hall. Either explanation is equally plausible.

Beck's PER in 04 was: 128.51

Beck's PER in 05 was: 137.55

Beck's PER in 06 was: 169.05

Doman improved him every year he coached him as you can see his PER improved every year he played.

Hall's PER in 07 was: 137.71

in 08 it was: 157.21

in 09 it was: 160.13

Hall improved every year under Doman. I guess Hall was more polished as a sophomore than Beck was since he had an efficiency similar to to what Beck had as a Jr, but Beck ended up better his Sr year. Either way, They both improved dramatically under Doman from first to last year starting.

Lark suffered an undisclosed concussion in the P Bowl. He may not be tweeting clearly.

To me it's inconclusive on Hall because QBs often make their biggest strides between the first and second years starting, so it's hard to attribute that improvement to a QB coach versus the QB himself. I look at factors like decision making processes and QB technique (footwork, release, etc.), because those are things that QB coaches can help his QBs improve on, whether the QB is Tom Brady or Riley Nelson.

So in other words, there is no need for a QB coach at all since improvement comes from the player himself and not coaching.

Correlation does not mean causation.

Although Beck needed to get Crowton out of his head. So maybe BD helped get a more positive voice in his head. But Beck got more from working out privately in the summer with his personal coach--yes it works for some.

So now Beck's improvement was due to a personal QB coach no one ever knew he worked with until you just mentioned it? Bronco seemed very happy with the job Doman did with his QB's up until he added the OC duties to him. He also seems happy enough with him to let him "mull" over the position for a few days rather than just firing him and hiring someone else. We either give credit where it is due or not. We know that Doman was Beck and Hall's QB coach when they went from BYU to the NFL. Beck being a late second round pick. I think Doman had something to do with that.

What i really want to know is "Why would James Lark like Brandon Doman" ?

JL sat behind RN for 2 years to long and wasn't given what he was promised.( when he was recruited).

That aside; I believe the tweet was an endorsement of Max not a negative of Brandon
