Game officiating

I'm curious if anyone else has noticed over the last two seasons that we have seen very little talk of collegiate basketball officiating. It used to be the common thread of our games in the MWC era, but while there are still mistakes happening, as there will always be in an imperfect profession that officiating is, it seems that stepping away from the MWC ref staff has been a huge improvement. I have no idea from where we draw our zebra staff these days, but I like that it's not been the dominate theme continuously. That fact also adds credence that it wasn't our imagination or being poor sports (blaming the officials instead of ourselves).

Nah, we talked about it last year a decent amount during conference play; WCC officials aren't great and we'll all be reminded now that conference games are about to start.

Which brings up the question...anyone know who has been supplying the officiating staff for BYU non-conference schedule?

Haven't all the games been blowouts except for the UofU one?

True, and that surely affects the rumblings by BYU fans. All of our losses have been on the road. Still, I haven't noted any of our home games where I saw the ineptitude of officiating that seemed to be prevelent in the MWC.

Ugh...I forgot how horrible WCC officiating is. Made me long for MWC refs.

Wasn't the poor fan reaction at the St Mary's game due to the officials?

Yeah, the officials did a couple things wrong in that game:

-Swallowed their whistles for the fast-hands St. Mary's "defense" but were sure to blow a whistle for every drive inside by a St. Mary's guard where a BYU player made contact. Both fair things for a ref to do but St. Mary's took full advantage of the way they were calling it and BYU did not

-When the BYU crowd expressed dislike for the way they were calling the game, they started to react to the crowd as well



It reminded me of what it was like to play UNLV most years and was not a pretty night for BYU fans (lots of stuff raining down on the court at the end if I'm remembering the correct game).

Dellawhatever loves the WCC officials. They let him get away with hand swiping, lowered shoulders and fall for his head faking. Dellawhatever would be half the guard he is without the help he gets from WCC officials.
