Is the Left *Really* Calling for a Constitutionless USA?

here you go, an outright call for a government unshackled by the constraints of the founders' work... seriously?

The second they successfully eliminate the 2nd amendment the 1st will fall.

Everything fails once the 2nd amendment fails. The government, police, and criminals will have nothing more to fear from the citizenry and dictatorship will rear its ugly head faster than you can say "Stalin."

If you read the article the author argues that the constitution is shredded on a regular basis so why not admit it.

I freely admit that politicians and courts regularly piss all over The Constitution, but I don't accept that it's okay.

+1. Precisely. A "living, breathing" Constitution can be morphed and whipsawed into anything you want. That's the pitfall.



The reason the Liberal Left argue the case for a "living, breathing" Constitution is, the Constitution gets in the way of their agenda consistently. Well, that's not Ok for them. The "agenda" must have precedence over a dusty, 2 1/2 century old document written by elitist, privileged, slave owning white dudes that could never envision the complex world we live in now. Right?



The problem is, an invasive, tyrannical govt. in the 18th century is just like an invasive, tyrannical govt. in the 21st century. It's just that the tyrannical govt's of the 21st century have become more sophisticated, more invasive, and smarter at how they market themselves (to help you and be more fair).

No, if you read the article, the author is arguing that it is time to do away with many of the "restrictions" that are preventing our leaders from better running the country.

I read the entire article, carefully. I am heading out the door right n ow to drive from Phoenix to So. Calif. I'll give a more detailed synopsis later. For a Constitutional professor, I am surprised at his conclusions.

Does the constitution mean anything anymore? It's annoying to some powerful people out there, but they have friends who can get around "language" of the document to serve their needs. These "cliff" talks have done nothing but prove to me that our government is a broken system, that democrats and republicans are not different, and that we as a country have already gone off the cliff, have smashed into the ground thousands of feet below, and and simply waiting for someone to put us out of our misery. Which will be a lot easier when guns are being confiscated and illegal to use.



I hesitate to bring this up, but the only candidate who had a shot at being elected and who actually believed in living by the constitution was laughed off the GOPs stage and ridiculed by the GOP establishment for 20+ years. I'm sorry, but my faith in republicans as "constitutionalists" has been shaken, and will most likely never be revived.

The left believes in dictatorial power making the right decisions for all. They are no different than the ancients (including the Jaredites and Nephites) who seem to think that you can always find competent or "fair" leaders who will use their absolute dominion righteously.



Those of us with a brain know this is folly, but the desire and theory persist even today and it's depressing. We live in the freest country the world has ever known and about half of the citizens herein want something else.

If I may be blunt - this constitutional professor is an educated idiot. The purpose of the U.S. Constitution is to put limits on the power of the U.S. Government. The Founding Fathers had 1st hand experience with tyrannical, overbearing, governmental powers that abused it's citizens.



His point that the govt. would govern through tradition modes of procedure. Really? How naive and foolish is that? To think that, decade after decade, century after century, all U.S. govt. officials would would act lawfully and with restraint because of tradition and procedure? It's laughable.

The left, by its very nature, is dictatorial and devoid of liberty. Why do conservatives and Republicans always react in shock when the left attempts to take more control of this country?

I'd say our day is worse. Look at the taxes the founding fathers were fightin against, then look at ours.

I also think that to get back to a sane fed governement we should be repeal the 17th ammendment and give power back to the states (we would not have Obamacare today if this were the case), and establish term limits to the Congress. Enough with career washington politicians.
