Tyler Haws: WCC Player of the Week

Congrats to Tyler Haws for getting the Player of the Week award.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

TYLER HAWS, SO., G, BYU

Tyler Haws is the WCC Player of the Week after leading BYU to a 2-0 week with wins over Northern Arizona (84-54) and Virginia Tech (97-71). Haws averaged 28.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals, shooting.543 (19-35) from the field, .750 (9-12) from three and .909 (10-11) from the free throw line.



On Saturday, Haws had a monster performance against the Hokies, scoring a career-high 42 points. Haws' effort marked the single-highest scoring output by a Division I player so far this season.

I was surprised to know that 42 points was the most scored to date in a game at our level of college basketball.

...and pleased!

Verifies that the media of the WCC didn't spend much time to know who Tyler was before the season began as he was not even on the 1st/2nd team all WCC player list.



I also checked the home page of the WCC (at this point today) and you have to actually go to the BB tab to get that Tyler is the POW. They have the story of the women's POW on the intial page. Interesting? No mention of any national POW by Tyler by SI.com/NBCSports.com. I have no idea what this lack of coverage is all about, but I take it that someone behind "things" at the WCC is not impressed.



Call me foolish, but I would think the WCC website would be all over one of the conference players being noted by such respected publications for national POW.
