Hoffman Staying

I havent seen this posted anywhere yet, but during the halftime show of the AF v. Rice game ESPN posted some "news and notes" which said that Hoffman was returning for his senior season. Has anyone seen this around yet?



If this is indeed the case, I have a hard time beleiving the rumors of all the firings. Why would he stick around when the future is so unknown? Maybe his draft stock wasnt high enough?

I heard it the other night while watching KSL SportsBeat. Their source was Hoffman's Twitter Acct.



Let the rumor mill on firings be what it will. If there's no announcement in the next week (by Jan 6) I don't expect one.

Hoffman would not have gotten drafted before the 5th round.



He needs to work on his speed if he wants a shot at the NFL. A 4.7ish time won't get you in at the wr position, no matter how tall you are (he's not really THAT tall compared to the NFL). If he wants to be a TE, then he has to work on not getting pushed around by 5'8" cornerbacks on bubble screens, and learning how to block downfield. and he'd need to put on 20-25 lbs of muscle while keeping the same speed. Either way, he has A LOT of work to do.



He had no prayer of making an NFL roster this year. I don't get why everyone was so worried he would leave. I was worried *for him*, that he would be lured away by some loose mouthed prognosticator with no connections, or some dbag agent looking to cash in.



Either way, it's good that he is staying.



KVN should and will go. You can't turn down getting drafted on the first day, and getting a couple mill a year.

Legacy - money cannot buy one. We will never know what Collie might have done. We will know what Cody does. He will shatter every BYU receiving record setting new records that may last a generation or more.



This is what college football is supposed to be all about.

Where do you keep coming up with this nonsense. KVN is not going to get $2M a year if he goes to the NFL this year. I posted info previously re what others including your favorite - Rob Morris actually got.

In all honesty, for its popularity, the NFL players are grossly underpaid compared to NBA and MLB.

There's a very wide disparity between a few "skill" positions and the vast majority of the roster in terms of pay.

Donta Hightower (lb) was the 25th pick (somewhere around where KVN would go with a solid combine) and he got a 4 year, $7.7 Million deal with the Patriots.



Coutney Upshaw (lb) was taken by the Ravens with the 3rd pick of the second round, and signed a 4 year, $5.2 million dollar contract. (3.8 Mill GUARANTEED)



Bobby Wagner was selected 47th and got a 4 year contract for about 2 Million or so, and a $1.57 million dollar signing bonus.



The money is there. Hopefully he doesn't get hurt and leave that on the table. His future family can really benefit from having a guaranteed 1 million in the bank.

Austin Collie might have shattered every BYU receiving record had he stayed. Or he might have gotten a concussion or a season-ending injury and never had a chance to play in the NFL let a long a shot to play with Peyton Manning.



In the NFL, it's hard to wash away the injury-prone label once you earn it. You just hope it come a few years into your NFL career rather than the few years before it.

Let me help you with the math.



First of all, nobody but you is projecting KVN to be anywhere near the 25th pick. Most have him closer to 60. The dollars drop off fast.



Second - Bobby Wagner - at 47th was drafted higher than KVN would be drafted in 2013 Draft. But let's go with a four year contract for $2M. That is about $500K a year and those are usually not an equal amount per year - start lower - then work up to.



Go do the math on Manti Teo and let us know how much you think it cost him to stay. It may or may not work out as well for KVN - but he can certainly raise the value of his stock. Everyone will be watching KVN next season and will keep watching if he performs.



If he was bigger - sure - he might go in the first round this year. But he is not bigger. Look at what happened to John Walsh in the combine when they noted he was a bit slow afoot. And then it was too late to go back and enjoy his senior year and further his legacy.
