Will BYU Reach 20 Regular Season Wins in 2012/2013 Season?

BYU has 10 in the bank. But all but about 3 of their games have been home games or neutral site games. BYU has 17 games left including USU before the WCC Tournament starts. That will be 9 home games and 8 road games.



It seems that WCC could have 3-5 dangerous teams including BYU that might pull off upset wins.



Will BYU reach the 20 win threshold this season?

I think 20 wins is a given. Next question is...what would it take for this team to get an invite to the Big Dance? I think at a minimum...13-3 in conference, beat Utah State, win semi-final WCC tournament game with a respectable loss to Gonzaga in championship game. That would put the Cougs at 25-8 overall. That would be a tall order for this team and even that might not be enough without a split with the Zags during conference play. Still a lot of ball to be played. I for one am hoping for the best. GO COUGARS!

Sadly, we may fall short this season. Would take no more than 3 losses in WCC and respectable showing in the WCC tournament for an at large bid. However, I'm thinking we pick up 4 losses in conference play so we will need to win the WCC tournament.



WCC is a two bid team this year.

Agreed. I think BYU eds up with 23 wins and is on the bubble again. And might just be a IN a play-in situation, AGAIN. Bt this team has some real vulnerabilities. Haws and Davies are a great one two punch, but neither is as strong without the other. Like Stockton and Malone with their synergy. Take one away and the other is not as good. Good news is BD is learning how stay out of foul trouble.

I've been down on this team from the beginning and I think 20 wins is pretty well assured. It would take injuries to Davies and Haws to drop below 20.

It's hard to get better on offense, but Rose does tend to find and use better defenders as the season goes on. I think our D and rebounding get us to at least 20 wins this year.

Gonzaga home

Gonzoga away

Their calculation shows we lose 2 games we are favored in.

If we win all games we are favored in, they project our RPI would be 34.4, which is on the bubble. If we lose 3 or less conference games, they project we would be at a 26.9 or better RPI which in my opinion should put us into the tournament.

Losses:

Not sure about Santa Clara, but the other two would be expected. Add to those Gonzaga and St Mary's in Provo as strong possibilities and you're down to 21 wins. Maybe you lose to LMU or Utah State and you're down to 20. I really don't see us going below 20 though.

VT needs to get things figured out and do well in conference play. That would go a long ways for RPI.

As far as VT helping us out...not going to happen. They are very short handed due to some transfers. Maybe they can pull off an upset or two at home but otherwise they are not a top 100 rpi team.

Barely 20 - most likely.

Here's to hoping we get an undeserved bid due to Coach Rose's reputation.

If Haws can continue firing like he is they will get there and get a bid. They can't double him and Davis and hopefully at least one other cougar will step up before too long to take pressure off the 2 gunslingers.

We will be closer to 25 than 20. And if the team continues to gel, and stays healthy, we will flirt with 30 this year. We have a good 5-7 players, if they stay out of foul trouble (which they have failed to do in big games this year.)

I think Rose is figuring out his rotation finally and we are getting better - I think we get over 20 wins as well and how well we play Gonzaga on the road may dictate if we get a tourny invite or not. It would help if we win all our home games, including vs Gonzaga, as well.

Yes - I have watched the basketball team. I have watched them lose badly on the road to unranked teams - consistently. Team sucked early. They are improving. Hopefully that continues - especially road games.



Until recently, we only had 2 solid starters. Now we might have 4 if consistency is proven.



5th starter is a coin toss. Hopefullt someone steps up.

I predicted barely over 20 regular season wins. The team has improved. 20 looks like a lock now. The flirting with 30 mentioned above won't be happening. This team has not won when they were supposed to lose but has not lost when they were supposed to win.



I still just have a hard time believing we will beat the Zags and SMC certainly has me worried. But with Sharp and Carlino showing more consistency - maybe Zylstra or someone else could get hot that night and get er done.
