This one may be a spirited debate.

Give him one more year with a new O-line coach and without the pain of Riley-Heaps and then reevaluate.

This! Unless he and Bronco can't get on the same page about QBS and how to develop, play and what offense to run.

Yes, yes a thousand times yes! Doman's problem wasn't RN, the offenses problem was Doman. Or are we missing the point that the offense was as poorly called and executed with Lark as with RN?

This years problem is 100% on the offensive line. Riley Nelson shouldered the burden of the offense from the fans but he was injured and running for his life because of bad offensive line play. Lark struggled because of the offensive line, Taysom struggled because of the offensive line. Fix the offensive line and then evaluate the other offensive staff. Doman's play calling seemed fine last year when the offensive line was giving Riley a bit more time.

Can him. Doman has no idea what he's doing.

No identity on offense. No ability to scheme, and clearly is unable to get his assistants to produce.

Many live to point at one unit, but the entire offense sucked this year from kicking to TEs to QB play to our WRs (excluding Hoffman). Name one unit on offense that met or beat expectations? None. Sorry, I find it hard to believe all those coaches sucked at their jobs. Typically, if an entire division under-performs it's the result of poor management with the head of the division.

Doman stays expect no better next year. Course, people will excuse the horrible play next season and argue Doman should be given another year because he had a newbie QB.

Actually - I don't like the "loaded" question. It should read -

1. Fire Coach Brandon Doman, Offensive Coordinator.

2. Don't fire Coach Brandon Doman, Offensive Coordinator.

I don't think he should be fired. We have 2 painful years invested. Let's reap the dividends. However, hire a good, experienced Offensive Line coach. Do NOT promote from within. That would be a HUGE mistake.

One more caveat - hire a new O-Line coach that has no ties to BYU. Ensure he has solid credentials with solid programs. Open the check book.

Agreed. I initially thought give him one more year but after watching the bowl game it couldn't be any clearer that he doesn't know what he is doing.

As I said in another thread, football is results based. Doman just isn't getting results on a consistent basis.

What I am thankful for this Christmas....that my livelihood isn't dependent upon the opinions of disgruntled armchair quarterbacks on an internet sports forum who in all reality have absolutely zero, zilch, nada with which to make an informed and intelligent determination as to whether or not I should be able to keep my job. Thank goodness this is all for fun and allows for some an opportunity to meet some unfulfilled childhood need or fantasy. Merry Christmas to Coach Mendenhall, his entire staff, and the team and thank you for representing BYU and the Church so admirably, and thank you as well for providing me a few hours of entertainment on game day as my "real" priorities in life are put on hold for just a few moments. :) GO COUGARS!

Not sure, so... No. I think I agree with Schmoe on this one.

Everyone should get at least 3 years to prove themselves. His play calling has been questionable at best. He seems to fall in love with one play every game and can't break away from it. The horrible option play that fooled no one to the wideout screen in the bowl game. When the tv talking heads start to question your play calling then something has got to change. The problem now is looking at next years schedule with the lose of talent on the defensive side of the ball another "new" qb and the schedule that looks to be the hardest in school history what as fans can we really expect next year? What kind of improvement can or should we expect? How much improvement will be enough? I think you have to give him another year but given the situation the team will be facing next year I'm not sure anything can change in one year. It seems like right now the teams in a no win situation.

He nearly killed off the next great QB this year (Taysom). I don't care what else he's done (nothing, really). Time to go.

I can go either way. 10 of 26 games below 135 PER. 10 of 26 games below 4 yards a rush.

But, there have been plays all year to be made and guys haven't executed.

Why try to micro analyze it. If we compare our offense to every other FBS team in the nation, the answer is clear. Our boys are looking for big open pockets to throw into.

In fact Doman's style is to wait for the perfect pass before ever releasing the ball. Blaming our problems on Anae, the offensive line, the receivers, or the quarter back wont get to the point.

Doman's got to go. Next November, check back whether I was right about this.

I say no, and my reason is fairly simple. There are a lot of restrictions for potential candidates for OC at BYU. It makes for a much smaller candidate pool than most schools. While I am not thrilled with Doman, before I would consider letting Doman go I would want a list of at least 5 candidates that there is reason to believe could do better, and Hawkwing doesn't count.

I want candidates with years of D-1 coaching experience and preferably OC experience. If you can give me that list, I would deliver the pink slip myself.

Robert Anae

Darrell Bevell

Steve Clark

Dennis Simmons.

Charlie Stubbs.

Scott Brumfield.

Mike Chico Canales.

For starters.

Ok

What are they all doing now and what is the likelihood for each one that they would want to come for what the job pays and entails.

For example - Darrell Bevell is a highly paid NFL Offensive Coordinator without ties to Provo - LDS - RM - YES - but he played at Wisconsin IIRC.

For starters.

Robert Anae: Something tells me he wouldn't come back after how he was run out of town 2 years ago.

Darrel Bevell: It would be a real coup if we could get him, but something tells me going from OC of an NFL playoff team to OC at BYU might not be considered a step up.

Steve Clark: I would prefer FBS coaching experience, but not a terrible idea.

Dennis Simmons: He lacks OC experience. Not a thrilling possibility.

Charlie Stubbs: He seems a bit long in the tooth to have not made it to an OC of a major college program. Could be an upgrade, but I would not be overly excited.

Scott Brumfield: No FBS coaching experience.

Mike Chico Canales: He has coaching experience, but unfortunately it looks like he peaked in 2004. Since then he went from OC/QB coach at Arizona, then South Florida, and now North Texas.

I am not thrilled with Doman, but I don't want to downgrade (again). Some of those guys I would be optimistic about and there is real reason to believe they could be an upgrade, but others are just a shot in the dark, the same way Doman was 2 years ago, and I am not sure another shot in the dark is better than letting Doman continue to learn.

The other problem is I doubt the list has changed much in the last 2 years, and it is possible that some of those guys have already turned us down or were ruled out for other reasons. We don't know that, but Tom Holmoe does. If Holmoe and Bronco decide to make a change at OC, I would support that, but I am not going to sit here and advocate for it.
