Jay Drew tweeted that if the 7 Catholic schools leave the Big East "BYU's 'piece of work' attorney" might get a bonus after allegedly sabatoging the BYU to Big East discussions last year. Especially if they create a new East-West Catholic/religious conference with the WCC:

East:

DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall and Villanova

West:

BYU, Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, Portland, Saint Mary's, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Clara

The East would need to pick up a couple more schools--Creighton, ND, Iona, Xavier, University of Dayton, Fordham, St. Bonaventure, and St. Joe are all Caatholic-affiliated basketball only (or Independent in football) schools that would fit that footprint. Then again, they could just form an East-Coast only conference by adding more from that list and bring an auto-bid from the Big East with them.

Why not?

NORTH EAST

Providence

St. Johns

Seton Hall

Villanova

Georgetown

MIDWEST

DePaul

Marquette

Butler

Xavier

Saint Louis/Creighton

WEST

BYU

Gonzaga

St. Mary's

Loyola-Marymount

San Diego

(I would rather see UNLV and SDSU here, but untenable with football issues)

15-team conference. Tons of markets - New York, Philadelphia, D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, Bay Area, San Diego.

Play the 4 in your division home-home and everyone from the other 2 divisions either home or away. Only have to make two "other division" road trips. (ie, BYU would travel to play two or three North East division teams during one week - a couple of weeks later play two or three Midwest division teams during that week - home games in between). 18 conference games. Division winners and #1 runner up get first round bye in conference bball tournament. Tournament rotates between New York, Chicago, and Las Vegas!
