CougarbibThe basketball only schools and The Big East Commissioner met for 2 days to discuss this. Revenue projections for the new Big East contract dropped given recent defections and rumors of more defections to come. The BB only schools are discussing the possibility of breaking away from the football schools and forming a new BB only league that would invite new members from the region that are BB only schools.
Not clear if they are just posturing for a bigger slice of the shrinking Big East pie - or really wanting to leave. Big East BB schools are smart and have to know that traveling cross-country to play schools like Houston will cost them some games and tourney seeding - and the annual bribe to hang with the football schools is getting less compelling.
Unfortunately, they apparently are happy to just talk about this until July when Houston, SMU, etc., join as all sports members.
IDK what all of this means, but I imagine that all schools in BEAST WEST or that have flirted with the idea of joining BEAST WEST will be watching.
I still wish the big boy conferences would all pick their 16 teams and then let the all-other teams consolidate or spread into small regional conferences with a real playoff.
And then BYU will know where we stand and can move forward accordingly.
Perhaps we will soon see the end of Cinderella Teams.
