Remind you that apart from loss at home to OSU, all are other losses were to ranked teams on the road. With an uncertain QB situation - playing with hurt QB - we still were in most the games and should have won many. Still managed to salvage a season despite some obvious disappointing decisions. Bitter pill is that we came into season with opportunity to have a great record - achilles heel was OL which has been an underachieving position for several years. Season will be easier to swallow if we beat SDSU. Look for better team next year with corrections and changes made that Holmoe alluded to. Given MWC and Independence - not a whole lot of choices about who we could play and SOS - had to take what we could get. This year showed the beginning of improved schedule of good teams. BTW - SJSU was for real this year as their coach just took a much improved step into coaching a program with good potential and visibility.
From my perspective, in a sense this post is an argument for the other side, because a couple of the losses - especially the ones you attribute to an uncertain QB situation or playing with a hurt QB - should have been wins. Its exactly the point that frustrates some of us. Some different decisions (not better play be the ones on the feild) could have put those games in the win column and opened the door for the title "phenomenal" to be attached to our head coach.
I personally give amateur players plenty of room to make mistakes. I give a little less room for a paid professional to do so. And I view some of Bronco's decisions lately to be pure mis-steps.
Well said. Your "take out these losses and".....is just pure balderdash. I get losing to ND and am mildly pleased we were even in that game. But your little, "IF" theory breaks down after ND and OSU. Losses to Utah (3rd in a row) and BSU--both schools in a DOWN year and worst team either have fielded in multiple years, are pathetic data points that bring down the phenomenal rating to a "really solid" rating. Those losses were totally preventable. This pseudo-empower-the-players to decide who starts is pathetic. Be a parent, Bronco! Be in charge. It's your legacy you are farting away. Riley cemented his. Did you really need him to cement this teams and yours as well? This phenomenal Defense was also farted away and dishonored by a narcissistic, glory seeking disaster, that yes, while injured, was not in it for the team. He was in it for himself. How myopically in denial does a player have to be to think at 65% he was the best option????? Really?? With your Sr "buddy" Lark wasting away on the bench? If it were Munns, ok, I it. A 65% Rley might be better than Munns. Although its arguable that a 65% Riley on drugs had to be pretty close to as ineffective. Bt I can't blame him IF THAT WERE THE ONLY OPTON. Or an unprepared freshman or redshirt guy. But no, BYU had a well prepared Sr with a decent amount of talent and all you could do was beg to go in and turn it over AGAIN!!??? Riley you are an addict in denial. I don't find that glorious. Bronco, you are an enabling master/mentor to Riley and need to be careful not to let favorite players sell you down the river and ask/demand for exceptions to a fundamental rule--you don't practice, you don't play. COMPLETELY MADDENING! I can't wait till this season is over. I hope Bronco has learned his lesson. If Riley can't practice during bowl prep and they are giving Riley "snaps" (though not yet cleared by Drs) and Lark does all the prep and they decide to start Riley, and BYU loses? Bronco takes a huge, huge hit. As does Doman, who if Riley was forced on him, ought to leave.
