Cougs_RuleThis is not going to help after a season of discontent. But since we are "not looking back" what does this matter? ;-)

SpiffCougMaking a BCS in 2012 is much easier than when it was first done. NIU is most likely the second BCS-busting team only slightly better than Hawaii.
It is sad that BYU hasn't been able to make a game in this era of ever-relaxing BCS standards, but it is what it is.

Yep, if Utah State had beaten us, they'd have been in the Orange Bowl. And if they had made a short FG vs Wisconsin they could be undefeated and who knows where they would be.
BYU fans can play what ifs, but not nearly as much as Utah St.

scott715And they did not have a perfect season. One loss. I think FSU will kill them. Personally I would like a shot at them. Like I have said, schedule one game against one of there top teams each year in Provo and get them on ESPN. It will also help our SOS.

But of course in NCAAF nobody is willing to risk that one loss by coming to Provo. It's much simpler to go undefeated and hope to ride the coattails of your school name or conference affiliation.

YNotThis is why joining the Big East or Mountain West does little to help BYU at this point. A champion from C-USA, Sun Belt, or MAC will be just as competitive for an Access Bowl spot under the new system as a champion from the Big East or MWC...unless you go undefeated. And if you go undefeated, you likely get an Access Bowl spot even without a conference.

Someone please post the NIU schedule and scores. Proven formula. You want BCS - this is how to do it.
BYU invented the formula in 1984 - then promptly forgot it - see 1985 schedule.
TCU, BSU, U, UH, and NIU copied it.

They beat 2-9 Army by ONE POINT, 1-11 Kansas by a SINGLE TOUCHDOWN, and lost to 4-8 Iowa. Ouch. Best wins: Kent State (11-2, #25), Toledo (9-3), and Ball State (9-3).
Kent State did beat Rutgers (9-3), but lost to 2-10 Kentucky 14-47.
Toledo beat Cincinnati (9-3), but lost to 7-5 Arizona.
Ball State beat 4-8 Indiana (by two points) and 3-9 South Florida (by four points).
I think what this shows is that the Big East was actually overrated this year, if that is possible.
As Bibster pointed out, the BCS-crashing recipe is to schedule a cakewalk and win. NIU proved that you don't even have to go undefeated. If the goal is for BYU to get to an "Access Bowl" under the new system (new name under the new BCS), then BYU should immediately join the MWC. Better yet, join the Sun Belt.
But if the goal is to play a worthy schedule and develop a program that can actually compete with the big boys, it's independence and perhaps some scheduling down a bit...and hope for better opportunities.

Cougs_RuleIt's just not rocket science fellas. Some of you folks who have been clamoring to play dress up with the big boys have totally missed the boat. TH has missed the boat. BM thought he wanted to play on that boat and found out this year that he can't and didn't, oh wait, but came close by a few points..... Well BM can only play the schedule he gets, right?
How many of you would trade a BCS game and (win-loss record to match) verses playing the big boys and ending up soured and soiled at 7-5 with trouble and all sorts of bi-lateral discontent in Cougar Town? Sounds like a good poll question.
