BYU vs SDSU Matchup

The teams appear to evenly matched heading into the bowl game. SDSU is a co-champion of the MWC with overall record of 9-3. Common opponents: both beat NMSU, lost to SJSU, SDSU beat BSU 23-21 in Boise while BYU lost there 6-7. The Aztecs are currently ranked 16th in the nation in rushing (229.17 ypg) and rank second in the MWC in rushing defense (140.25 ypg). However, rumor has it that SDSU's leading rusher has a torn ACL and will not play. Sounds like opportunity for our DL to shut down run, but need to bring heat on pass rush, as our DBs have not played stellar ball since dismissal of Sampson at SS. Lark's passing prowess should give SDSU something to think about but not sure our OL will be able to open up holes for Williams to run unless they drastically improve - something like the ND, GT game where Williams was a threat as a runner and pass catcher. This game should be a chess match as both Long and Bronco are intimately familiar with each other's style of play.

It's sad that we are likely the underdog to these shmucks. What a horrible, wasted season we have witnessed. I think Riley gets 2 ribs knocked out in the 2nd quarter, pulls a wolverine, and magically helps us lose by only 2 TD's due primarily to grit.

Katz from OSU was their QB. It is now Dingwell. Looks like he is somewhat mobile. Don't see Hilliard there anymore. Adam Muema rushed for 255 yards last week and the team had 400 against Wy.

Amazing. They are a top 25 team in the eyes of the objective world and schmucks to you. And BYU is a wasted season due to not being ranked as high even though nobody had BYU ranked before the season.



SDSU has overachieved pre-season expectations of them. BYU is right about where experts expected BYU to be.



And if SDSU beats us as you predict and as they well might do on their home field - consider that further validation that they are better this year.



BYU could win, might win, might not win - should be an exciting match-up.

jsut put hims as a foe in your settings. i did it and it has significantly improved my cougar corner experience.

Wow. How danged ironic it would be if BYU continues its running man Riley scheme against their strength on D. Instead of using a potential strength in Larks passing vs their weakness on D.

Because NMSU stacked 8 in the box to stop the run (they did respect Williams running ability), the pass was wide open. Lark admitted that he had studied NMSU very diligently and knew how they played and what their weaknesses were on the field. Doman devised a great game plan and Lark executed it very well. My thoughts are that Lark should start - ride the hot hand. He and Doman should be disecting the SDSU game film and devise another battle plan that attacks their weakeness. I feel that Lark is both intelligent, athletic and healthy enough to pull it off. He has the backing of the WRs and they love getting the ball in stride. It might be that Doman has been hampered as to what type of throws, plays he could run with an injured Riley. Lark showed what can be accomplished when routes play to his strength. Hope that the correct decision is made for this game can be a launching pad into next season for Hill and the WRs.

Yes. But Rocky will just do the same bc Bronco has stated emphatically that Riley is starting. And since Bronco wants to give his comrade a fair chance to win, he will start and play Riley ;-)

Wait, do you mean clandestine mtgs with Lark and Doman? Cause that ain't happenin otherwise. Lark will not start and likely not play if Bronco sticks to his M.O.

Oh, and, at least one WR has Riley's back,not Larks.

I think this and the matchup against our run defense makes this game look pretty favorable for us. I think our D can shut them down. Question now is our offense...

SDSU has a strong run defense. Which makes starting Lark, not Riley, even more logical.

Me too. I was hesitant at first... But he finally pushed me over the brink with one too many trolling threads and responses and it has been great. Threads are shorter, less snarky, and much more coherent. Also a little less trollish.



I'm pretty sure that no one in the country thinks that a team that lost to Fresno State, San Jose state, Washington, and only beat Nevada in overtime by a point belongs in the top 25. More than half of their wins are decided by a TD or less, against the scrub MWC.

I fully expect Riley to start, and I fully expect us to lose. Riley Nelson against a rocky long defense? Forget about it.



Not trying to troll, by the way, I just don't see us winning against a good team with Nelson at qb. He hasn't shown me anything different in over 3 years. I have become, comfortably numb. I have accepted that other people are making decisions, and and because of that we will lose games that we shouldn't.

I will root for a win, but I have to admit that part of me wants Bronco proven wrong about this D3 QB. Is he good enough to maybe get us one last drive in the end to tie the game? Yes. But will he miss plenty of available opportunities in quarters 1-3 that could have us win by 2 TD's? As always, yes.



Would it be wrong to root for Riley to get knocked out of the game and then have Lark lead us to victory?

My bad, there are two single stats where they make top-30 and one more in the top-35. I was looking at the SIGNIFICANT major categories like total D, passing D, rushing D, and scoring D. So, even with their tackles for loss/sacks and fumble recoveries, they still can't stop the other team very well.

Where they allowed 18 first downs, 276 yards, and 3 touchdowns. Yep, they're a defensive POWERHOUSE, that's what won it for them.
