NMSU RER & Other statistical observations

Here is the RER for the New Mexico St game with the season RER in parentheses and some other statistical and non-statistical observations.



Foote: 75.20 (147.47)

Hoffman: 243.27 (152.61)

Apo: 140.10 (97.49)

Falslev: 150.10 (104.97) - his first game above 135 since the USU game.

Friel: 122.67 (131.48)

Ridley: 147.73 (145.01)

Williams: 55.73 (154.39)

Mahina: 146.60 (192.36)

RBs: 63.52 (128.43)

TEs: 132.24 (131.39)

WRs: 190.67 (131.70)



- Hoffman was targeted 18 times in the NMSU game and 52 times in the last three games.



- Lark's PER of 236.53 on third down was the highest for BYU this season and the highest since Riley was 273.84 last year against Idaho St.



- Lark's nine blue zone completions were a season high for BYU.



- BYU gave up 1 blue zone passing TD the first six games. They have given up three in the last two games.



- BYU had 0 turnovers for the first time since the opener.



- Riley Stephenson's 53.5 yards per punt was the highest since BYU averaged 54.5 vs Utah in 2008. (That game also only featured two punts).



- BYU should not kick any more FGs this season and the opponents should kick any either. Whatever ailment currently aflicting BYU kickers is highly contagious. BYU is 9-17 on FGs and opponents are 7-14.



- BYU is averaging 10.5 rushing first downs per game - the highest under Bronco.



- As good as Lark was (172.11 PER), Jim McMahon in 1980, Ty Detmer in 1990 and Steve Sarkisian in 1996 all had higher PERs for the ENTIRE seasons. It's been so long since BYU had a consistently good QB play, that an overreaction is almost to be expected.

That's pretty amazing right there. Yes, we are used to horrible QB play the last 3 years and it has taken a toll. That being said I have all the confidence in the world in Hill next season, but the way this coaching staff has screwed up the QB situation I am also scared to death that we will still see more of the same.

watching zero turnovers was awesome. it was also awesome to see the ball be thrown well. i am so tired of riley's wobbly slow duck balls. can't wait for next year. i like riley. grateful for his hard work and dedication. i just don't like his quarterback play on the field.

To correct myself, it was actually Detmer's SO season.

I know it doesn't count if the defense drops it, but Lark had several passes that coulda/woulda/shoulda been picked off.



Glad his near perfect game worked out for him though. It was VERY nice to see the turnover category under BYU's name read "0".

this same logic applies to riley. it is a wash.

That's the point, for every game Riley doesn't throw a pick, there's someone saying there were throws that could have been picked off. It's pretty much the same in every game.
