Add to that : He has grit and determination and is the recognized leader on the team.

FWIW, Riley has earned the right to start.... Being a fan I don't need to play loyalties, James Lark gives them the best shot at winning in my view.

I was thinking to myself during the game, "man, I wish I were watching grit and determination instead of good passing and long TDs." (Okay, I stole that from twitter, but it's still funny)

He won't give an excuse. He won't give an explanation. He will simply say the "Riley is the starting QB" and will give him the start. And we will lose.

I don't know if Riley will be in condition to start.

Most pass yards since the Max hall era... Its not like we haven't played our share of bad defenses since Max Hall left.. Riley should have go 400 yards against Idaho the last 2 years....

Yes, records for a QB's first start, that's quite the qualifier. I'm not saying that Lark didn't play a good game or that it's not awesome to see a QB who can throw down field, but the reactions by some fans make me laugh, as if we've had Peyton Manning sitting on the bench. You all watched this same Lark playing vs. Idaho and not looking so hot, or did you miss that game?

NMSU is horrible, nobody disputes that, but a 186.5 PER against anybody is impressive, no turnovers, completed his first 10 passes. That used to be "decent" by BYU standards but not anymore, that was a phenomenal performance especially given how long his been gathering dust on the bench. The fact that he looks like a BYU qb was as refreshing as it was frustrating that we've spent so much time on the Riley project.

I saw James hand the ball off a lot, throw a nice pass on the run... Oh and come off the bench cold while getting few reps throughout the week. He is not Peyton but better than what many fans expected .

And most likely better than a 65%, drugged up Riley. What will be interesting is if Riley is in effective in the first half is if he will give Lark a chance or stick w RN and go down with the ship.

I don't see much of this Peyton comparison actually. What we acknowledge, and so must you, is that Lark looks as though he can make all the throws and has the smarts to take care of the ball very efficiently. The outcry is due to the fact that Lark seems to be very capable as a QB for this offense and has been rotting on the bench during pivotal games this season when the starter has both sucked and been injured. Clear enough?

I see fan reactions calling for Bronco's resignation. I see fan reactions saying "we've had this guy sitting for three years!?" I see fans reacting as if we've had an NFL-caliber QB riding the pine all season. I'm responding to those, and reminding ALL of you that this same QB didn't look "very capable" vs. a bad Idaho team. CLEAR ENOUGH?



PS-Yes, he's definitely, undoubtedly, indubitably better than an injured Riley. No argument here about that.

I'm not upset that Riley is the starter. I just no longer buy the excuse that an injured Riley gave us the best chance of winning. Because has proven that a Lark that prepares all week to be the starter can more effective than an unhealthy Riley.



I'm not saying Lark should have started all season. But he should have started when starter wasn't healthy. I think that decision cost BYU at least two wins.



On an unrelated note, I was very frustrated to hear Bronco say in the coaches show that the team will get the next two weeks off and then begin bowl prep.



So once again, BYU won't take full advantage of their allotment of bowl practices. And guess what? That week they will start bowl prep, is going to be finals week.



So BYU is going to go into the bowl game unprepared to meet an SDSU team that you better believe will be very motivated to play BYU.
