Yeah, because the guy being called to replaced him shot poorly as well 4-14 (.286) (not as poor as Carlino, but poor as well) and wasn't exactly tearing it up in the AST department either (he also had 5 in two games).
In fewer minutes. Have you bothered looked at the +/- or RR numbers in those games? (RR is the difference between the +/- with a player on the court vs. the +/- with the player off the court--a way of standardizing across a given team)
After all, that is the crux of my argument--the team plays better with Cusick than Carlino.
Cusick[/u]FSU = plus/minus -1, RR of +16
ND = plus/minus -4, RR = +2
Carlino[/u]FSU = plus/minus -25, RR of -32
ND = plus/minus -11, RR = -12
Given that Cusick has about the same baseline stats for the position (ppg, apg, topg) with fewer minutes, given that Cusick has a much better +/- for two seasons now and a MUCH better RR rating, and given he is shooting a better percentage from 2 and 3, why would you continue to play Carlino as much, especially in clutch situations (game within 5 points with 5 minutes or less remaining)??
