Things to watch FSU vs BYU

Here are mine-



FSU has poor on D this year. But they will have a size advantage at almost every position.



We will be able to rebound the ball? Are we going to play a lot of zone?



Who guards Snaer?



Will Davies force double teams?



Will Haws be able to get separation for his jumper or drive to the hoop effectively?



Will Carlino keep up his efficent play?



In the end I think we will hit enough 3's to win the ball game.

Will come down to rebounding, 3 point shooting and free throws.



This very well could be our first loss on the season.

I expect this game to tell us an awful lot about this team.



We lose if we have:

1. Inadequate guard play, if we see a lot of turnovers and wild shots (essentially the equivalent of a turnover).

2. Negative rebound margin, we'll have to fight extra hard for rebounds.

3. Poor 3 point and free throw shooting percentage.

Davies is so good in the post that if they don't double team, he will take over the game.



I think they'll underestimate him at first, but will soon start bringing the double team. The key will be if Davies will be effective in using that to create opportunities for others.

Very true. Davies is very good at recognizing the double. Sometimes he tries to force it, but if he can be patient the double will bite FSU.



Key to this, though, will be our other guys hitting their shots when Davies passes it out to them. If our shooting is cold, Davies will take matters into his own hands and as good as he is, he won't be able to do it alone.

So true that this game will tell us a ton about the team. Here is Seth Davis picking us for the win too.

Not sure if this should help me feel better, or I should be worry about jinxing the team. I'll knock on wood just to be safe.

point #2, I don't agree with. numbers 1 and 3, absolutely. Make shots and FORCE turnovers = BYU win.

Really? AJeffreyCall says that FSU is holding teams to 38% shooting. That's REALLY low. If BYU shoots that average, no way they win.

I see. No team does that well over a season on defense without some serious defensive coaching. That stat has me officially worried. Shooting percentage and turnovers are 2 of the strongest predictors of win/loss.

Unfortunately it went the wrong way on nearly every point.

Florida St had more turnovers than we did. Our TO number was very manageable (12 or 14). It was our inability to hit open shots that did us in.
