It's A Whole Different Ballgame

That was KWitt's response to questions about Utes struggling in PAC 12. Said he is not discouraged - trying to build something - take it to the next level.



I saw that coming - I wonder if KWhitt saw it coming. I wonder if he told incoming recruits that the Utes would struggle for a few years.



He took a jab - maybe at Ute past - maybe at BYU past - about getting to 10 wins was like clockwork in the MWC.



For those that think there is nothing for BYU to play for at this point - KWhitt gets it.



Going to a Bowl helps recruiting. Sure - going to a BCS Bowl helps it more than going to The Potato Bowl. But staying home hurts recruiting. He went on to say that having the allotment of 15 practices allowed is like having another Spring Camp for player development.



It is do or die for the Utes and they know it. 6-6 is the best they can do and that would be 8th place re Bowl eligibility in PAC. 8th. PAC has 7 Bowl Ties. Utes would need to fill a slot another conference could not fill or be left out even if eligible. Lose 1 game and they are out.



Do or die. Something to play for.



Ironically, their projected opponents in the Military Bowl or some other minor bowl are



SJSU or Louisiana Tech.



That is what they have to play for.



BYU is already in the Poinsettia Bowl - likely vs SDSU. So some think we have nothing left to play for.



The Bibster thinks BYU has a lot to play for



It would suck to lose to SJSU and then explain to our co-workers if Utah beats them in a Bowl Game.

Recruits like 8-4 Bowl teams better than 7-5 or 6-6 Bowl teams, heaven forbid

A win is a win and losses suck

Momentum into next year

Clearing the bench vs NMSU at least

Playing games = Experience = Good For Next Year

Run up gaudy stats and highlight reel plays - audition for NFL

Playing for themselves, family, friends, fans

Pride

The "whole different ball game" applies to those BYU fans who are so convinced that the Big 12 is the right place for BYU.

BYU football has thrived wherever it has been and has been consistently good for DECADES. A move to the Big XII would provide its own unique hiccups, sure, but I have no reason to believe BYU wouldn't be a contender in the second-best conference in the country.

Define "contender."



Year in and year out I think we'd be respectable, i.e. middle of the pack. But our record in recent years isn't good against the better BCS teams. So it would probably be rare that we actually contend for a Big 12 title.

It would depend on what half of the conference we're in, for starters. But I'd say without hesitation that we'd be a lot closer to a conference championship than :utard: has been in the Pac. And, if we're in the side of the conference opposite Texas & OK, we'd make regular appearances in the championship game.

Kyle is a bit of a clown and not a particularly good coach.

I can't even begin to imagine how different the face of BYU football would be with KWhitt as HC. :sick:

I would bet he would have already been fired and we would be on our third HC since Lavell by now.
