BSU Blue Turf Loss to SDSU - Creates Poinsettia Bowl Chaos

The article I read said BSU came in with a 71-1 home win streak for the regular season including a loss to TCU that cost them BCS glory and the conference championship. Actually, the article was unclear whether that was the record going into the TCU loss last year or going into this loss to SDSU who is now 1-31 vs ranked teams on the road. Aztec fans love Rocky Long.



BSU and SDSU are tied for the MWC lead right now.



Anyway - we could be playing one of these teams in The P Bowl.



SDSU won behind their back-up QB, because their starter is INJURED. It must be nice to have an experienced back-up when your starter goes down.



BSU - learning from BYU, went for 2 twice - failing both times - losing by 2. It must be painful to not have a solid kicker to rely on.



SDSU defense played very well. BSU defense actually played well.



SDSU Special Teams won the game. They opened the game by taking the kick-off to the house. They blocked a BSU punt and returned it to the 8 yard line.



Team Sport - win or lose.



This was a WAISTED - love that spelling - Opportunity for BSU - and a great win for SDSU.



Peterson said it was awkward to play vs SDSU style of play.

Technically, at 5-1 it is SDSU and Fresno State tied for the MWC lead. BSU is 4-1. Air Force is also 4-1. Nevada is 3-2. Everyone else has a losing record in-conference.



Fresno State has just two games remaining. @Nevada and Air Force. They beat SDSU, but lost @BSU.



San Diego State has two games left as well. Air Force and @Wyoming. They beat @Nevada and @Boise State, but lost to @Fresno State.



Boise State has three games left. @Hawaii, CSU, @Nevada. They beat Fresno State, but lost to San Diego State and do not play AFA.



Air Force has three games left. @SDSU, Hawaii, and @Fresno State. They do not play Boise State. They have not beaten any of the leaders and also lost to both Army and Navy.



Nevada has three games left. Fresno State, @New Mexico and Boise State. They lost to Air Force and San Diego State.



Realistically, Air Force and Nevada are only in contention because they have either not played some of the big boys yet or do not play 1 of them at all. But they could be in the mix.



Fresno State, Boise State, and San Diego State seems like a coin toss and they all have tie-breaker advantages and disadvantages depending on who they tie with.



The Big 3 have already played each other - and each one split those games. It could be a 3-Way tie if they all win out and IDK how that tie-breaker would work out.



Coin Toss might be the best way.

Doesn't the Vegas Bowl still have first pick? I think they would take Boise as they will bring the most fans.



The Poinsettia Bowl is going to want to sell tickets as well. They know BYU is bringing fans. SDSU will likely bring more fans than Fresno.

/\/\/\/\/\THIS/\/\/\/\/\ is why I enjoyed being in a conference more than being Indy. I actually cared about other games and how they played out. I actually followed the conference to see how it impacted my team. Now I just hope we win out or we go to the whatever bowl for the year. Don't get me wrong. I'm thrilled with the scheduling we are starting to see against some teams we rarely would have seen. But given a chance to join the Big 12 or stay indy...I'm going Big 12 100% of the time.

Well, let's look at it.



Right now, our only option is the Big East. Which won't be that much better than the Mountain West was. And once AQ status goes out the door for everyone, that really takes the luster off things. So we'd be back to being in a middle-of-the-road conference. And a conference championship would be our consolation prize. I'm tired of that. It's small time thinking, in my opinion. Right now, I'd rather have the scheduling flexibility and exposure that comes with being independent.

ESPN is still projecting Boise to Las Vegas and SDSU to Poinsettia. I would agree that the LV Bowl would still pick BSU if given the choice.

Not sure if they get first pick, or The First Place Team. I think SDSU would bring the most fans now that fans are excited about their team. If they keep winning, they will be fighting to keep a Top 25 ranking. San Diego is a 4 1/2 hour drive to Las Vegas obeying the speed limit - less if you go 80 MPH.



Boise must be about 9-10 hours obeying the speed limit. Also much easier to get flights from SD.



Makes you wonder if either place would want Fresno State, although they travel pretty well - considering the alternative would be to say home in Fresno. :lol: They probably celebrate any chance to get out of town.



Anyway, I could see Las Vegas grabbing SDSU if they had the chance to do so. Especially if that resulted in a match-up with a So. California team or Arizona team - USC, UCLA, AZ, ASU, or even U would make an interesting match-up.



And if Boise State loses another one - LV Bowl would almost certainly pass them up for a 1 conference loss team. Almost.

Who's the Pac 12 fith place team right now? Washington? ASU?

Hard to tell with the Divisions. I guess the bowls pick.

Probably USC. Oregon, OSU, Stanford, and UCLA have zero, 1, 1, and 2 losses respectively while USC has 3. ASU and UW also have three losses, but USC has 4 wins while they only have 3. So that is at least 7 teams ahead of U with their 4 losses.



Only 3 teams, WSU, Cal, and Colorado have more losses than Utah.

Personally, I am hoping for a second chance at Boise State. I think we take them to the woodshed on a neutral field. Peterson is great at preparation for big games with time, but Bronco's bowl record is not to shabby either.
