Cincinnati announces 2015-16 series with BYU

Very excited by this announcement because the home game (Provo) is first, in 2015 and the away game is in 2016.

They have a storied history and we look forward to competing against an opponent of their caliber. It should be a wonderful addition to our home schedule in Nippert Stadium for our ticket holders as well as serving as a great student-athlete experience for our players when we travel to Provo."

This is good news. Why, though, does the other school always announce first? It sure seems that way.

You're right. I've never seen BYU announce a game first.

We're slow. Good move TH. Will we see other Big East games? I think so.

I envision playing teams from Big East will replace the WAC/MWC/Sunbelt scheduling in an attempt to improve SOS and position ourself for exposure for fans and recruits. I can see SDSU, Air Force and Louisville becoming part of the equation.

October 25, 2015 in Provo, November 12, 2016 in Cinci. So both are late season, and more BE games.

Hopefully we will see a lot of Big East opponents on a home and away basis. Hopefully every single one of the western contingent. Hopefully we see a lot of MWC in addition to USU. AFA was always a worthy and classy opponent - although higher risk of injuries due to blocking style.



UNLV, Nevada, CSU, maybe even others. SJSU - FSU - why not?



Put the hate in the rear view mirror. We should send Nevada and Fresno State thank you letters. WCC has worked out far better than WAC - non Football worked out.



We should own the West - at least those who will play us.



I suggest a 4-5 game deal with BEAST and another 4-5 game deal with MWC saving 2-4 games for U, ND, or others.



Until Big 12 or PAC comes calling.

We have BSU, Southern Miss, UCF, ECU, and Cinci on schedule. So Big East teams are no problem



I say go for Louisville, UCONN and/or Rutgers, and perhaps S. Florida.

It is possible that they beat us to the announcement because being in the eastern time zone their news cycle starts earlier. Now if it was an announcement about a west coast team, I would have to look up a different excuse :)

I have a better idea. Let's just join the big east, that way we play uconn cinch lville Boise SDSU rutgers all the time and still play for a conference championship, and also have different bowl options.

Who cares who we play late when we get to six wins and play in the same bowl no matter our record. Come on see the big picture.

THIS. Every single one of them as long as they continue to do home and away. We need to nurture these relationships either by joining or by scheduling all of them over time. The further west - the better.

In the press release, Duff Tittle from BYU notes that this is the first game from a team from Ohio other than Ohio State (that we have played in 3 bowl games). That is actually incorrect as we have twice played Bowling Green University (where Puktah plucked Oscar Meyer from):

Bowling Green is about 25 miles north of this Findlay school we're playing a BB game against the week. I guess most westerners don't know where Bowling Green, Ohio is.

This is not a bad idea. The Big East has provided a nice stepping stone on the pathway to ACC and Big 12 for several teams. You have to be somewhere until you get where you truly want to be and Indy and Beast seem to be the two best options until Big 12, Big 10, or PAC open the door - which may be never.

I don't have as much opposition to joining the Big East as I had before because I found that I like being in a conference and having some importance in the games played in the 2nd half of the season, but I disagree that the BE is a stepping stone to anywhere. Our resume was better than Utah's or TCU's, who have been bumped to the big boys leagues. Being a member of the BE will not enhance the opportunity to be likewise a member of those conferences whatsoever. I have absolutely loved the first 2/3 of our 2012 schedule (minus Weber St as I would be like ND and never, ever schedule a lower division team), and it has been better than anything we could have in the future BE, but I am hoping that something with this TV rights issue can be worked on while there is a conference even as bizarre as the BE membership is, that would take us.



Being indy has thus far been far better than being in the MWC/WAC as far as our schedule goes, but I do believe we can have a better existence.

I prefer indy over BE and B12 over any other option including the pac 12.

I like Indy over conference. I like the tv exposure and being able to see ever game. I think the first two years is not a good measure of what it will be like in the future. Next year will be closer but even year 3 is not what it will be like. It takes time. Year 5 should be pretty close.



We have missed some opportunities this year but not winning the close games. If we were 7-2 we would have a lot more people talking about us and we would be raked. My friends talk to me all the time now about the Y. They say we are the best 4 loss team in the country.



Playing this schedule is making us better.

Indy > Joining almost any conference. I would consider the Pac12 and would jump at the Big 12, but like you said, those aren't realistic anyway, so Indy is my favorite.

Indy gives BYU nothing to play for after six wins. We will never be undefeated and playing half your games during the week and at least three others at 8:30PM that leaves 3 games at a decent hour to watch college football. If BYU some how got 2 or 3 bowl tie ins where a better record gives them something better I would change my tune because then and only then will November games matter if you are Indy. Another advantage of the big east is a basketball deal to get some of those teams to come to Provo and playing Boise over thanksgiving. But I guess new Mexico st and San Jose is the same for the fans of Indy.
