Riley is the QB and Riley is Riley

I decided to mellow on it for a couple days, but it's still bugging me, so here's a thread.

"I keep telling myself, game after game after game, 'Run, throw it away' and all that stuff," Nelson said. "But my natural instincts are to try to stay alive and make the miraculous play. This season, I've gotten burned time after time after time. I had no choice but to go on to the next play. You've got to forget about it. But man, I wish it didn't come to that. I hope not to do it again this season."

This from the senior leader who told the media that he and Coach Doman were going to have to agree to disagree on his style of play. Can't find the link.



For a coaching staff dedicated to the idea of execution, it seems odd to go with the guy who says I won't be coached and I won't learn from my mistakes. (Yes, that's some hyperbole, but only a little.)

Holy crap you guys read into stuff where there is nothing. All he is saying is he knows what he is supposed to do but in the heat of the moment his natural instincts take over and he makes the mistake again. I do not disagree that he needs to freaking throw the ball away but he isn't saying that he does it on purpose.

Holy crap, RIley is admitting his mistakes. There is nothing to read into it other than his play and decision making hurt his team. Go as ke TH, or better yet, go listen to his interview yesterday. It is common knowledge,



And what this points to once agains is that Doman has been trying to caoch RIley up, but Riley refuses to let that coachng sink in. Instead, he does what he damn well wants to do far too often and has hurt his team dearly (TH;s words again).



Fact is, throwing the ball away is smart football at times. Sliding instead of taking a hit is smart football for a QB. And Riley did not play smart football in crucial situations this year, and cost his team. A



And there is no other way to look at it. Even Riley knows it.

A 5th year SR who can't throw the ball away? Yeah, he sucks.



That's fine. He is what he is. But no one can defend him.



What's even less defensible is that our coaching staff won't pull him, for even a series to show him that he doesn't run the team.

It's ok Fdbtr. Keep running full speed into LBs. Might makes right. Although I have to give you credit for not resorting to a tuck duck, and run...Strategy. Dude, I tried to tell you this all day yesterday. TH has stepped in. He did it sometime after the ND loss--again a very winnable game that Riley's style of play was a strong contributor to the loss. And the difference vs GT was noticeable! By their fruits he shall know them. Their (rileys and Broncos) confessions are pretty indicting as well.

Let's see - Riley looked better against GT playing from in front the entire game vs their porous defense - no big holes to try to miraculously dig out of than he did against the ND defense which is even better than the BYU defense. Let me ponder this and try to figure out how this could possibly have happened - oh yeah - TH had to have shortened Bronco's leash, set Doman free, and cut off Riley's hair.
