- 10 of BYU 15 TD passes have come in blue zone. BYU's bluezone PER is now a very good 183.13.
- BYU actually had their best day throwing the ball on 3rd down of the season with a 154.67 PER. But it remains an abysmal 99.96 on the season.
- BYU is a first half team. The team's first half PER is a sufficient 133.27. The second half is 98.31. Tough to either sustain a lead or gain one without good QB play in the second half.
- After giving up 1 passing TD in the blue zone the first six games, BYU has given up three the last two.
- Teams can't throw against BYU on thrid down. ND's PER awas 43.93 on the down and the season teams have a 80.03 PER against BYU on 3rd down.
- ND was 6-14 on 3rd down (42.9%) which was the best of any opponent against BYU since San Jose St was 50% last year.
- Like last week, BYU struggled to defend on first down. ND ran 26 1st down plays. They only faced 2nd & 7 or more on 9 occassions. ND did not convert any 3rd & 7 or more.
- From 2006-2011, BYU was 18-4 in games decided by 7 points. This year they are 1-3.
- I don't care if Riley is healthy and the leaderof the team. He needs to sit. He has played 10 and half halves this year. He has met the PER standard in just four of them and only once in his last eight halves of play.
- Nelson is not making plays on the field. Just like Heaps last year, there are plays available. Plays are there to be made. But he cannot throw the ball accurately or efficiently to make those plays. He has played his way to the bench.
- Outside of the season opener, Riley's PER is 106.05. His rushing this year is not helping either. He has run 57 times for just 106 yards and has taken 16 sacks this year.His play belongs on the bench, not the field.
- Riley has a PER of 114.91 and has attempted 196 passes this season. Here are the QBs who have attempted 200 or more passes with a worse PER: 2000 Charlie Peterson 113.32; 2003 Matt Berry 112.12; 2011 Jake Heaps 111.05; 2002 Bret Engemann 109.24; 1978 Marc Wilson 106.14.
