Waaahhh! Funny how none of this was an issue when Mangino was winning...

If you don't want to be talked to inappropriately, don't goof off during a walkthrough. If you think he's too tough, then transfer or to further quote Hawkins, "Go play intramurals."

New article in ESPN today paints it as something pretty ugly. Similar to Caoch Majerus at Utah. There is being tough, then there is crossing lines that never should be. Cracking on kids due to family situations is crossing that line. Using the fact a brother of a player got shot in St. Louis and telling that kid he can go back there to his homies so he can get shot too is not cool. Ever. And there is more. honestly, the more I hear, the more I am reminded of Coach Majerus. I do not care how good of an X and O's guy he may be, that stuff is just not OK. Not when you do it to 18-22 year old kids who are afraid to lose their college scholarship if they stand up for themselves. I hope he gets suspended without pay, forced to take sensitivity training, and is told if he crosses that line again, he will be fired for cause.

I disagree to some extent. Its one thing if he is harassing him with that stuff, but if he is reminding them of how important it is for them to take this stuff seriously or they will end up in a bad situation like others they know, then I don't think it is that uncool. Is it hyperbole? Yes. Do I think a football player who goofs off in practice is going to end up getting shot back home because he doesn't develop his skills to get into the NFL? No, not necessarily. But I don't find it that offensive if it is used in the right way. We don't know the whole context and only have a few people's explanation of what happened, so it is difficult to judge.

Someone brought up an interesting point on College Football Live today (I forget who). He said that since Mangino has no buyout in his contract and the AD wants him gone, he either has to present a viable reason for firing him or payout the rest of his contract. With that in mind, the AD at Kansas is going to great lengths to smear Mangino, seeking out players and parents who dislike him and even bringing up old traffic tickets.



I don't know how true that is, but I'd be willing to bet that we'd see coaches behaving similarly at a lot of big name schools across the country if we had them under the microscope as well.
