Did BYU Exceed Expectations Yesterday?

Vegas oddsmakers had us a 13.5 (absolutely huge) dog yesterday. The teams that ND played until yesterday had only scored 3 total offensive TD's this season.



Final score 17-14 ND wins.



BYU scores 2 offensive TD's.



BYU's D allows 400+ % of the rushing yards that they had averaged this season. The D registers 1 sack for -8 yds IIRC. A pathetic ND passing game completes big plays to chew up a lot of the field.

BTW - it was a broken play and Riley came up throwing one way and Hoff went the other way and Riley tried to redirect it and choked it off. It was a broken play because of poor pass protection and Riley trying to buy time.

Absolutely NOT!

The worst play of the game was Joe Sampson getting jock-juked and coming up with an armful of air at his own 3 yard line on 3rd and goal. And it's not even close.

The second worst play was the BYU front 7 letting a ND RB who was almost down at the line, put a hand down to catch himself, slip off, and run 60-something yards only to be caught--somewhat ironically--by Joe Sampson.

The third worst play was the missed field goal--not so much because it was missed, but by how badly--it looked like it was headed straight up the tunnel in the corner of the endzone!

Fourth and fifth worst? Sure, then you can start thinking about Nelson's erratic decisions and arms. But hey, on that long sack, at least he didn't toss up a pop fly like in last years TCU game. That, tough as it is to say it, is improvement.
