Our d is good, but not great. Great defenses do things that ours does not:



1. Force turnovers, especially in big games. In our 4 biggest games, our d has just 1. And they didn't "create" it - it was a gift.

(this one pisses me off more than any other stat this year)

2. Get key stops when they have to have them. Failed to do this time and again today and last week. And against the filthy :utard:



3. Never give up 270 yards rushing to any team, ever. No matter what.



4. Never give up 300 yards passing to a back up who hasn't hardly played in 3 years.

The truth is we don't have the big bodies up front that we need when teams want to go power rushing attack between the tackles.

The truly great defenses also don't have to be hampered by Turnover machines on offense that are practically racing to see how fast they can get off field.



I would like to see a defense this good matched up with an offense and a quarterback that could sustain drives for more than one quarter each night.

You can't pin 270 yds rushing and no forced turnovers, and 1 sack on Riley or the offense. Our D has really disappointed the last 2 weeks.

The truth about our D, when up against a solid OL and a QB that can make throws we break.



Again, Bronco's focus on execution and playing a style that forces execution from the opponent gets beat by teams that can execute.

I defense did get pummeled the last two weeks but how long were they on the field for? Our defense had great stops in both games, especially against ND until the 4th quater. Doesn't matter how great you defense is, you have them on the field the whole game, they get tired and give up big plays. True, we can't blame the poor defense on Riley for the ND game but we can pin the loss on him. Our defense played good enough to win the game. Unlike the game against Ol Miss last year, they can't do it all folks. I blame Bronco for poor preparation against OSU. Against ND, they were just on the field to long.

ND had 138 yards rushing or so by half time. They had 2 running backs who averaged almost 10 yards a carry. Our LB's and DB's were bouncing off of their RBs on every play. This was in the first half. Had nothing to do with them "being on the field too long". They just aren't really all that good.

It's like we're totally dependent on what our opponent lacks. If they don't execute, we're good. But if they do execute, we've pretty much lost the game before it even starts.

Well, I guess I didn't look at time of possession, it just seemed like they were on the field all game. Either way, they still had quite a few red zone stopes and played well enough to win us the game if we had a decent offense people. Give them some props for were it is due. I don't know any defense that is expected to only have 6 points scored on them every game. Even the mighty LSU had Idaho score 14 points on them.

BYU's defense is just above good. They make bad offensive teams look very bad.



Their Achilles though is a strong offensive line. We don't have the dlinemen that can use technique and speed to get past them. Against bad to adequate offensive lines we will continue to dominate.
