Frustrating loss

BYU's defense gives up 270 yards rushing. Totally unacceptable. Even with that, if Riley hits hoff in stride behind the secondary BYU wins 21-17. Plays like that have to be made if you want to win against a top 10 rated team.

Absolutely. Would have been our best victory since Oklahoma and something to actually get excited for. Can anyone say they were expecting a Cougar victory? Even at half time I was confident Bronco, Riley, or Doman would find a way for the Irish to pull it off.

It was a complete team loss. If the D holds them to half those rushing yards we win. If Riley doesn't throw behind his recievers (especially hoffman) all game long, we win.

Is it basketball season yet?

Agree. The sad part is that Bronco keeps talking about how good Riley looks.

Nate Miekle said in the KSL post game show that Riley "is what he is" and that for some reason they don't feel that anyone else gives them as good of a chance to win. This year is what it is. We have a place holder at QB and our future is out with a knee injury. I still wouldn't want Taysom starting but I wish he was able to get his play set in every game like he was early. I don't know why the coaches don't have confidence in Lark but they don't. If we had a John Beck or Max hall at QB this year we would be undefeated and in the top 10 but we don't. That is what hurts the most.

Agreed. I don't see us losing any of these games with a decent offense.

Yep

Every loss has been frustrating because there have been relatively easy plays that BYU could/should have made that would have won or completely changed the course of those losses.



And many of those plays that weren't made were simply unforced errors by BYU.

Many of those plays that we're not made were badly missed tackles or blown coverages.

Why are the defenders being taught to tackle feet? They keep lunging at the feet of the runner and getting faked out of their jocks. Sure sometimes all you can do is dive and hope to catch a foot but there were way too many times defenders were unnecessarily diving at feet.



Tackle high and wrap up. Give up a yard rather than sixteen.

Yup, said it in the "accountability" thread a week ago that Bills should be starting over Sampson. I think Bills hasn't learned to "flex" everytime he forces someone out of bounds after a 4 yard gain yet, and that must be what is delaying Bills seeing the field.



I don't see anything that Sampson does that Bills can't do as well, or better.



Open field Tackling? Check.



Not getting stupid penalties in the air? Advantage Bills (1 Bills to like 3 Personal Fouls + others for Sampson)



Good placement? Check.



Flexing in just about every set of downs? Nope. That must be it.





Also.... Running the kick off right into the heart of the opposing special teams players with your head down? Nope, Sampson has him beat there, too.

Who honestly thought that BYU would score an offensive TD on the Irish?



The offense could have done more, but for 2 weeks in a row the D really under-performed.
