Worst starting QB ever to have been trusted with so much.

I agree could have totally won the game by hitting hoffman wide open in the middle. However, I don't think he played all that bad today.

Not good: 118.9 without the final interception (112.4 with). For NFL fans, that translates to 82.8 (71.2) (the NFL rating is much more hard on interceptions).

Last I checked he was at 137. But that was 3rd quarter. So he was sub standard once again.

Below 120. That sounds about right.



I am convinced that we are the only school in the nation that would have him as the uncontested starter at this point.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Been saying this ever since Riley was given the starting position after Jake's rough start (AS A SOPHOMORE WITH A NEW OFFENSE AND OC, AND AFTER GOING THROUGH THE TOUGHEST PART OF THE SCHEDULE). This is what you get with Riley Nelson. A likeable, good leader who is a tough competitor and an athletic QB who can make plays with his feet. You also get a turn over machine and a QB who can't make the throws when they need to be made and were it not for Cody Hoffman would be utterly pathetic with throws over 20 yards.

Nelson can't graduate fast enough.

Riley HAS to sit. Heps was benched because he wasn't meeting the standard. There were plays there that cold be made and he was just missing them. Riley is doing the exact same thing; plays are there. But he's not making them. No excuses, time to sit.

He ran out of bounds on that late run and I saw him throw a pass away, for the first time, to avoid a sack.

On the shovel pass, Williams was completely taken out of the play by a DL.



It is past time Riley sat.

In my 23 years of watching BYU football, Riley is the worst starting QB I have ever seen at BYU. We have had some bad ones and Riley makes them all look pretty good. He is beyond horrible.



I lost count of how many passes were missed because they were either at the feet of the receivers or behind them. JD had the 1st down if Riley throws even a barely catchable ball. Hoffman was so open in the 4th qtr that my mother could have made that throw. Not only was it bad, it was at least 15 yards from anywhere that it needed it to be. Pathetic...



He is so bad I have lost all faith in this coaching staff.

I think because the contact happened behind the line of scrimmage and was initiated before the pass, it's a good play. Same thing on a screen--if the DL can take out the running back before the ball is in the air, there's no pass interference.

I view quarterbacking as a "sum total" position. Add up the good things you did for the team, subtract the bad things, factor in whether the game was still in doubt when you did them and hopefully the net is a gain for the team. That is why Brett Favre and Trent Dilfer could both win the Super Bowl. Favre balanced his boneheaded plays with some superlative throws. Dilfer rarely made a "wow" play but also rarely turned the ball over or missed an open receiver. Where is Riley? He makes Farve-like mistakes from trying too hard, but doesn't balance it out with the BIG plays (Hoffman at the end of the U of U and ND games, for example). So, give me our version of Trent Dilfer: James Lark. Will he wow us with long, accurate throws? Probably not, or he would have played by now. Will he kill us with turnovers and missing open receivers? Limited history with him suggests not. And that is all this D needs to win out impressively.

The scary thing is I get the impression that Bronco is only looking looking for a Trent Dilfer and thinks that Riley is it.



In Trent's defense, he was an excellent college QB--I recall he led Fresno State to a win over BYU in Provo in one of the Bulldogs' first seasons in the WAC.

I am past anger (for now) and almost feel sorry for Riley. He has given his all to this team. Problem is he has given so much to the other teams as well.



The "Good Job, Good Effort" came as most of you probably know, from a kid who was cheering on his NBA bball team after an embarrassing loss in the playoffs. The camera picked up the repeated cheer from the the kid as the defeated team walked off the floor to the locker room. It was quite the buzz. Sad thing was how embarrassing it was and how oblivious the kid seemed to be in saying it given the performance.



That's about how I feel. All that is left is to give this qb and his offense a "good job, good effort" for a horrible season. And while the D struggled to shut down the run after in game adjustments to take away the TE, this is the same ND team wh ran for 400 yards. Vs Miami.



This is really the best we can do on Offense?
