USF will not finish in the top half of the WCC

Six players, including starters Perris Blackwell and Mikey Williams, are transferring from the USF program, head coach Rex Walters confirmed Thursday night.

The Contra Costa Times first reported the story on its website Thursday evening.

Blackwell, a center who averaged 12.7 points and 6.1 rebounds this season, and Williams, a guard who averaged 11.1 points, are juniors.

The four departing reserves are guard Avery Johnson, center Justin Raffington and forward Charles Standifer (all sophomores) and redshirt freshman forward Khalil Murphy.

In a phone interview, Walters acknowledged that he knew of some of his players' displeasure early in the season and expected some to leave the Hilltop.

"Some of their goals were not being met," Walters said. "There are a lot of different reasons for why our guys are leaving, so I don't want to go into each one, but we want to try to help them any way we can."

Two others starters from the 20-14 team, Angelo Caloiaro and Rashad Green, were seniors, meaning Walters' only returning starter next season will be point guard Cody Doolin.

Walters insists he's excited about the 2012-13 season.

"We have certain goals and aspirations for our program, and that doesn't change," Walters said. "Will it be more difficult? No question."

If by winning you mean not finishing last, then yes, USF will win the WCC this year.

They might finish 1st out of teams not in the Top 3.

I find that even hard to believe. LMU wil take 4th. USF will be fighting SCU for last place.

How on earth is the University of South Florida going to win the WCC title? They're not even in the conference! Well, even so, they probably have a better shot at it than any other USF.

I think there should be a rule that if you link to anything that will make everyone who watches or reads it "stupiderer" then it should be moved to a new forum labeled "stupiderer" so we can be prepared and accept that we will be made more stupid by clicking on it. Or at the very least maybe we can put in a popup that must include a disclaimer and user agreement to continue to the offending piece. And man was that video a piece (of :utard: ).

USF picked to finish 7th out of 9. Fans everywhere are shocked.

BYU picked 2nd, far behind Gonzaga but just ahead of St. Mary's.
