frdbtrI was able to attend the game live yesterday and had a pretty good birds eye view of the offense.
Observation #1: Either Apo is really slow or he doesn't run his routes 100%. He just looked slow, didn't seem to be sprinting in his routes and didn't make quick precise cuts.
#2 Riley made the right reads most of the time and got the ball out quickly to the right guy. His guys were normally open except a very close call where Hoff made a better play on the ball than his defender.
#3 Riley needs to learn to freaking throw the ball away when there isn't a play to be made. If Doman can do anything as his coach, he needs to figure out a way to get him to do this. Some plays just aren't there, throw the ball away and live for another down. Another thing that gets me is when things aren't open, he runs around behind the line of scrimmage waving his arm around acting like he is trying to direct a reciever but normally he never finds anything and either gives up a sack or makes a bad decision and throws interceptions. It is time for him to either tuck and run when that happens or get out of the pocket and throw it away instead of waiting until the defender he just evaded recovers and plasters him for a 10 yard loss.
Frankly, I think BYU's offense is fine when we have a QB that knows how to run it. Riley knows how to run the offense but still makes lots of mistakes in judgement during the game that need to be cleaned up.
