I'm tired of the football drama - bring on some basketball

Not basketball season. When bball season ends the annual sports void starts until next Fall.

I am ready for basketball. I am excited to see what kind of team we have this year.

I'll vote for that. There are too many complaints in football. First there's complaints about playing cream puffs and then when we lose to stronger teams it's complaints about coaches and players.

I'm honestly not sure what we have to look forward to this year. I think not having Noah is going to hurt us tremendously.

Noah wasn't flashy he just went out and did what needed to be done, IE. rebounding, blocking, scoring and leading.

I agree Hawk. Noah was a force for consistency on this team for two, if not three years.

I am a little nervous for this year. I hope Carlino is a bit more stable and consistent. I love his energy, grit and assertiveness, but get nervous about some of his reckless tendencies (sorry for the subtle allusion to you know who).

Brandon should have a big year. If Tyler can return to form and the new guys add some D and 3 on the perimeter, we will do well enough.

And besides, in Rosé I trust. He will have them ready.

Here is why I am excited:

Davies got a whole offseason to work with our big man coach (see new NCAA rules of 2 hours of contact with a coach per week.)

No freshman on the guard line.

We have two talented bigs in Davies and Austin.

3 proven scorers-Davies, Carlino and Haws.

The big questions are crunch time scoring, big man depth and shutdown perimeter defender.

I think that Carlino will be our crunch time scorer. We cannot afford to lose Davies or Austin. I hope that Delgado or Winder can fill Abouo's role on D.

I hope that Delgado, Winder and Haws out play Zylstra and push him to the bench.

Noah will be a big miss. He's was clutch.

I look forward to getting back to more of a run 'n gun style, though. Tough D and transition baskets.

Davies should be improved. Hopefully more consistent and less inclined to force things.

Our backcourt should be improved. Carlino with better handles, feel for the team and shooting. If Winder and Cusick can play lock-down D and chip in a few points our backcourt should be good.

Nate Austin should also be improved and be able to spell Davies. Collinsworth "retiring" will hurt us up front as now we can't go big.

I'm curious to see how Ian Harward will shape out and how quick Haws gets his legs and shot back.

Rogers looks out. I have no idea how good Delgado is. The 3 and 4 positions will be interesting.

Please no Zylstra starting or as a guard...

Noah gone, but bigs Davies/Austin/Harward remain. So not that worried there. Haws coming back fills a big hole, and Ambrosino provides new length.

Last year, our biggest problem was bad outside shooting. Guys like Zystra who could score 17 against teams like Idaho State but then 2 against good (taller/faster) programs like St. Mary's. I think that our 3-point shooting should be helped in a major, major way this season. Even if Calvert/Ainge/Rose are too young to get much time.

The remaining problem is ball-handling/turnovers. Carlino, specifically. But this will be his second year, so big improvements should be made there. And if not, Delgado is waiting for more playing time.
