Desert News article today. "Oh really"???

Brandon Gurney writes in today's Desert News, "Look for BYU to hold Oregon State to well below 100 yards rushing". Nope..., I don't think so. The only reason OS rushing stats appear pedestrian is because OS has chosen to manage the run/pass percentages in favor of the pass. If..., and I mean if OS chooses to push the run more in this game they will have over a 100yds. on the ground!



A lot of how the game plan unfolds for both teams will depend on production (or lack of) by both questionable QBs.



What do you Coug fans think about Gurney's statement? Will he have to "eat" this statement, or will he be correct?

BYU has the #1 rush defense in the country, holding opponents to under 60 yards a game and under 2 yards per attempt. This is not a result of our opponents being passing teams, but of our athleticism in our secondary and our linebackers' ability to fly to the ball.



Oregon State has the #103 rushing offense in the country, well behind other teams that we've already played and stuffed. You all average about 3 yards per attempt and just over 100 yards a game vs. much worse defenses than you'll see on Saturday.



I'm not sure where your hubris comes from (I understand it's exciting to be ranked in the top ten for the first time in forever), but if you look at the facts, which is what we here on CC try to do, it looks like the Beavs will have trouble moving the ball on the ground vs. the Cougars.



Is there something I may be missing here? A secret weapon? An injured running back who is coming back? A plan to injure our LB corps early?

People can pontificate until they turn Pope purple, but the statement above is what will decide a lot about who wins tomorrow and how.

I agree that you guys will probably try to run more than you would have with mannion but I still think OSU will have below 100 yards rushing. buy's rush defense has been exceptionable for not just this year but the past few years.



we are thin at dline due to injuries but our guys at home will hold your rushing to below 100. if you are going to beat us it will be through the air.

I'm seeing the same jawing and overconfidence from OSU fans that we saw from USU fans. Fans of both teams think their offenses are unstoppable and our defense is overrated. :whistle:

I believe OSU could have rushed for 100 is Mannion was the starter at QB. Without a proven passer Byu will dare OSU to pass. Look for Byu to focus on stopping the run 1st and foremost. Unless OSU can prove it can pass consistantly, Byu will load the box and stuff the run.



The ONLY chance OSU has at rushing for 100 yards is if they can break a few big runs on broken plays.. Otherwise Byu's defense will focus on dominating the line of scrimmage.

Yeah.....because nothing is going to make us respect the pass more than the Voz.....
