Rankings-How High Can We Jump?

If we beat the AP #10 team on Saturday, can we go from getting no votes to ranked in the top 25? Michigan is the only team with 2 losses that is ranked.



If we win back-to-back games against AP top 10 teams, how high can we jump in the rankings? Knocking off OSU and ND in consecutive weeks provides how big of a splash for a team with 2 losses?



I think that if we win on Saturday we will find ourselves just outside of the rankings in the 26-29 range. If we then beat ND we probably jump to #20.

If we win out, at best 17, one more loss and there will be no number next to our name this year.

If we go 2-0 in the next 2 weeks on national television, we are top 15 in both polls.

No... that would mean if we win out we'd be close to the top 10. I don't see it. Imagine though if, we will play some no-name from some no-name conference in some no-name bowl game. Oh boy, do we have a bad deal...

Agreed. Those would be legitimate wins and would catapult us. Any chance we discover a passing game and kicker in the next few days?

If you think that a team can go 2-0 against 2 top 10 rated teams on national TV and not end up in the top 15 themselves you are crazy. What happens after those 2 weeks is irrelevant.

Our ranking would be higher if Hill was the one to win those games. We would get respect due to our D.

Any bump we would have gotten from beating Oregon St will be dampened due to their QB injury.



I think beating them gets us into the top 25, but just barely. If we could that with a win at Notre Dame and I think we'll be right at 15.

BYU is favored to win, so I'd agree that BYU would be voted maybe top 25 at best. The bigger jump would come with an upset at Notre Dame.

If BYU beat OS, and then if ND beats Stanford (Sat), then if you guys beat ND you will be ranked bewteen 15-20. If BYU was an SEC team and the same scenario happened you would go to #3! (sad, but almost true) :-)

Or a PAC-12 team that beats an overrated PAC-12 team (UCLA) and an overrated B1G team (Wisconsin).

Wow, I had kind of dismissed the possibility of making it to a decent ranking this year after the losses to BSU and the U, but if by some chance we make it past both OSU and ND, and then beat GT on the road, wow, I could see us right around #15. Maybe if the chaos in the top ten continues, who knows...

As much as I would like to argue, I can't. Even with QB Mannion playing I would put us closer to the bottom of the Top-25. That's the trouble with early rankings based on comparisons of teams from prior year stats. Same thing happens with our local H.S. rankings every year.



Having said that, if we win Sat. this thread will die on the vine.
