That may well be, in fact I am sure it will happpen a time or two, but Vaz is physically healthy and should handle it. Of greater concern should be how QB Nelson handles the same treatment when Crichton gets a hold of him the first time! Nelson's injury was reported to be pretty serious and I hope a futher, and perhaps even worse re-injury does not happen.

You'd be surprised to see how many BYU fans actually hope that Nelson gets injured...

Which is actually quite a sad reflection of the current state of BYU fan-dom. Openly cheering for any player is just wrong. Cheering for a player on a team you actually want to win is just sad and makes you a bad fan.

It is also an indicator of just how out of scale this whole RN thing has gotten, for the fans and coaches.

That a coach will play a player - that isn't very good at his position when healthy - just as long as he can shuffle his feet and "kind of" throw a 10 yard out, is a sad reflection on the coaching and decision making being made.

That is complete bull shit and you know it. Riley Nelson has been very good when healthy. He has been the most consistent player at his position the last three years when healthy.

If Riley Nelson can only "kind of throw a 10 yard out" then why is it that the only 40 yard pass plays we had all last year were when Nelson, not Heaps were playing? You are completely blind in your criticisms and they hold no credibility.

Gee, I came in your "house" to stir-up some healthy (all in fun) banter with you BYU fans. Didn't mean to contribute to battles between folks in your own ranks!

You didn't. Blueisbetter has had an irrational man crush on Jake Heaps from the moment he committed to come play for us. When Heaps played like the smelliest dog doo doo you could find and got replaced by a guy that was recruited by no one, he has been patiently waiting for a mess up by Nelson. Nelson played 2 games when he shouldn't have (coaches mistake IMO) he now has his ammo to blame Nelson for everything wrong with BYU football. Now since our coaches made a mistake on a play call at the end of the USU game and got our freshman Phenom injured, he is now blaming our coaches in order to justify the fact that Heaps quit and left the team because he didn't have the intestinal fortitude to man up and play better in order to win his job back when Riley graduates. Some BYU fans are only fans when the coaches make decisions that they agree with. So when they can link those decisions (however remotely) to bad things that happen during a season, we get bitching that would make your mother in law blush.

To bad when this kind of stuff happens and ruins the season for the team, community, and fans.

We actually had the same very similar situation happen this year at OS, though the fans didn't get real upset over the incident. After Mannion beat-out Ryan Katz for starting QB, Katz transferred to SDSU where he is killin' it as the starter for the Aztecs! I think most of our fans understand that these kids need to get playing time. If they are back-up I don't blame them for thinking about transfer. However, I am surely wishing we had Katz as back-up right now with Mannion going down (argggh)!

Against sub par teams. Prove me otherwise.

What is his per against above .500 teams? Win loss record?

I love the irony of a moderator getting over emotional and swearing though. Who exactly do I report this to?

I haven't been waiting for nelson to fail. Inahve season tickets and wear blue to every game. I have for years now.

I *knew* he would fail, because he's not remotely close to a good quarterback. There is a difference.

I don't root for anyone at BYU to fail, but that doesn't mean that I have to act surprised and wide eyed when they aren't any good or aren't ever healthy and they do fail.

This is a coaching mistake. Riley nelson never should have gotten a serious look at quarterback after 2010. His injury problems alone point to that. He hasn't gone more than 4 games in 3 plus BYU seasons without being injured. That alone should give you a reason to look elsewhere. You can't build a successful fb program if your starter is always hurt.

I thought you wanted when healthy? At any rate, here are the stats and some context. Perhaps very good was a bit much on my part. But I stand by my statement that your positions on Nelson the last month have been bull shit.

Nelson against teams .500 or better:

W/L: 4-2

Opp W/L: 41-23 (.641)

PER: 124.11

Heaps against teams .500 or better:

W/L: 1-7

Opp W/L: 75-28 (.728)

PER: 95.73

Hall against teams .500 or better:

W/L: 11-6

Opp W/L: 152-70 (.685)

PER: 138.66

Beck against teams .500 or better:

W/L: 5-6

Opp W/L: 99-38 (.723)

PER: 140.36

I'll take Beck with this year's defense...

I'll take beck or hall with this years d. They would wipe the floor with this schedule.

And my position this month has been be? What are you referring to there?

Riley and the coaches in sticking with him pissed away two very winnable games. Riley turned in one of the worst performances of a starter through 3 quarters in NCAA history.

my "Position" on him this month is the same that it has been for the last couple years. He is not a good enough quarter back to get the job done against above 500 teams. He is just finally playing teams on our schedule that are good enough to show that. My position hasn't changed, the quality of opponents has.

Riley Nelson has been very good

Uh, going to have to disagree with you there. Any qb on our schedule could beat up most the teams that Riley has beat. Get back to me when Riley beats anybody that has a winning record, aside from utah state. Riley has been 'good'. that is it. no signature win. No big wins really. Beats teams that byu should beat. will never and has never taken byu beyond where hill or lark could probably take us. he is severely limited and insanely turnover prone.

And I thought we were talking about the Bev's QB!
