Jabari's father speaks on new mission

In total honesty, I would be inclined to believe that given the new climate, Jabari Parker, will go directly on a mission and then to the NBA. If that is his dream (NBA), and I think his going on a mission was tempered by that fact, then his decision just got a lot simpler to make.

My only question is if he can become a higher 1st round NBA draft choice by going to college, or coming off of a mission. If it doesn't matter, then probably he's going to go the mission route and to the NBA. Just my two cents.

I'm curious how NBA teams would evaluate Jabari if indeed he does go on a mission and then plans to enter the draft afterwards with no college experience. He would be two years removed from basketball and conditioning and I would expect that his draft stock would decrease substantially. I wonder if he would be more inclined to serve a mission, then enroll in a college for a year or two to get back in basketball shape and hone his skills before entering the draft. It will be interesting to watch how this all plays out...

I think this makes things a bit easier for Jabari, as in he doesn't have to choose one or the other.



Reading between the lines, it sounds like he's eager to play in the NBA (why shouldn't he), and if he went to college for a year as mandated by the NCAA he'd then be in a situation where he'd have to choose between a mission or NBA.



Now, he can go on a mission, come back and either try to go into the NBA or play a year and do the same. He'll be 21 or 22 years old.



Sounds like he's still trying to make up his mind, though, regarding a mission. But, if he wants to serve, the impact of a mission on future NBA plans just became less. He can go serve, come back, play a year, rebuild his stock, and go.

Zero chance he is a first rounder right after a mission with no collegiate experience. The first round is a three-year guaranteed contract, and no team will give him that after not playing two years.

Word. He still can't have it all. That is, he can't have a mission, and the NBA, without college unless he's willing to give up at least a full round of the draft. If he wants to go on a mission, things definitely got easier for him, but not easy.

My prediction : a two year mission, one year in college to gets his legs back and then off to nba. Unless his first year back isn't enough to make him a lottery pick

Maybe he can have it all. Mission, end of 1st round draft pick, still make buckets of money, and he'll be drafted by a playoff team and not by the Bobcats? If he's legit but away from basketball, a playoff team that doesn't need immediate results would love to get him and let him get his legs back during the first year.

Interesting point. But not sure he would fall to bottom of 1st round even if he does mish and straight to NBA.
