...two great receivers, a great tight end, and very promising running back?

Give up?

Two injured option QB's.

To discount all of the talent on the field just because a QB can run makes me think that the FSU game in 2009 did some psych damage and is still giving someone nightmares.

Just because you havea QB that can run does not mean that you should have a running QB.

TIme to stop hte option plays, the QB draws--basically the designed QB runs. Just stop. Our QBs tuck and run on passing downs enough as it is, and let that be their running plays.

Limit their hits by limiting the designed runs. Put the running game in the hands of hte running backs--Williams, Foote, Hine, PRitchard. THey can should that load.

We have the skills players on offesen to run a power I. Too bad it does not suit our QB or Oline, which is totally bassackwards for BYU football.

I just do not get it.

A QB should not be runnIng untill after he has established a deep passing threat. To do otherwise you are better off running a wildcat formation.

Amen. A running QB is an adjunct ability that gets you 1st downs when the WR's are not open. It is NOT the primary option for any legit D1 team. Even Doman didn't do this as a QB! He gave the ball to Staley and passed downfield. Nobody recognizes this putrid offense anymore.

Doman's game by game log rushing attempts:

2000:

9 vs UNM

18 vs Utah

2001:

11 vs Tulane

3 vs Nevada

10 vs Cal

14 vs UNLV

11 vs Utah St

12 vs UNM

3 vs Air Force

10 vs SDSU

18 vs Colorado St

9 vs Wyoming

14 vs Utah

13 vs Mississippi St

13 vs Hawaii

I agree that this is how it should be. I know it wasn't like that with Tim Tebow - that's an exception. It was like that, however, with Steve Young. When you use it like that, it opens up your pass game, because they have to take someone out of coverage either to augment the pass rush and provide greater containment or to spy the QB. The designed QB draw is less advantageous, because the QB is running like a RB and is going to take shots like a RB. Sure, he will have an extra blocker, which is one pro to the idea. But you'll get about the same yards if you send everyone medium-to-deep, see them all covered, and scramble out of the pocket and down field, and you'll have a chance to slide and not get hit. This is how Steve Young got his yards, rushing AND passing.

To summarize, when you do a designed QB run, your QB is no longer a dual-threat - he's a running back without the right build to be one.

Yeah - thanks for the reminder of how Steve Young got his concussions at BYU and in the NFL.

Iirc Young got knocked out by a bad USU team in the game that also blew out Gordon Hudson's knee. All off the top of my head re USU - could be wrong about the opponent - but you get the drift.

Grasping at Straws folks. It is football. Bosco had his career ended twice - passing. Knee Vs Michigan. Shoulder Vs BC or someone else his senior year.

We went through Walsh, Clement, and Hancock all in one year - passing. Well, technically, Clement was diving on a fumbled snap or other fumble.

Heaps got cracked ribs - he certainly was not running too much.

McMahon got his knee injured back in the day - then lost @Wyoming playing injured with a knee brace in a blizzard.

Sean CONCUSSION Covey - passing QB. And count the hand injuries - throwing.

It happens.
