Thread for Beavers making the trip.

Howdy Cougs! I'm Jason, the founder of The Flat Tailgate Society http://www.facebook.com/pages/Flat-Tailgate-Society/166360193395475?ref=hl.

We formed to promote sportsmanship between college football fan bases and to provide a way to help visitors to Corvallis, Oregon to have an awesome time while supporting their team. We put on a great tailgate to support the Beavers, but it's always welcome to reasonable visiting fans.

A couple times a year we take our tailgate on the road for an away game, this year Provo is on the list!

Last year we hosted my sister and her husband (both BYU grads) at our tailgate in Corvallis and we even decided to let the Cougs win. How freaking nice it THAT?!?!!



My wife and I are flying into SLC Friday night then driving to the game Saturday morning, back home Sunday so this is a quick in-and-out trip for us.

It seems the pre-game tailgating scene in Provo is a little light, is this correct?

If so, why? It can't be just the alcohol thing can it? I've partied with Mormons many times and had a blast, sans alcohol.

Regardless, I know SOMEONE must tailgate regularly near the stadium and we want to find them. We support the Beavers vehemently, but we're not a-holes about it. Instead we love meeting new people and experiencing YOUR tailgating traditions. We also support ourselves as far as food/drinks are concerned so we're not looking to mooch. We'll pay for anything we consume.



So... help point me in the right direction please. Who's open to meeting some new people from the Pacific NW?



This thread can also serve as a shout-out to other Beavers who haven't heard of us and want to join our Provo escapades, just remember the sportsmanship.

There is a parking lot dedicated to tailgating not far from the stadium with some great fans who are very welcoming to our guests. I'll see if I can get some of them to comment here with more info.

The tailgating at BYU is picking up. There's been a push for it the last couple years and the University has finally designated some lots specifically for tailgating. Aside from that, welcome to Provo and hope you enjoy your visit (apart from the loss, of course ;) ).

Hope to shatter attendance records Saturday at our tailgate party in the RV lot on 2230 N, 150 E. This is roughly 3 blocks directly North of LaVell Edwards Stadium on Canyon Road - the street which runs right in front of the stadium.



Would LOVE to meet some NEW BYU tailgaters and welcome ALL Oregon State fans to Provo properly. We are the ONLY tailgate area at BYU authorized for RVs, campers, toy-haulers etc....AND the only one authorized to overnight....and we do. We set-up around 9:00-10:00 Friday night, do some light grilling and/or get pizza and watch the Friday night game on ESPN on a huge plasma.

Tailgating is just getting started. Tailgating virgins of sorts. The numbers will be small. Mormon food has some fun and funny staples that may show up. Green or Red Jello with cottage cheese and fruit - best when whipped with cream. Funeral and Wedding scalloped potatoes - same thing - either occasion.



Let those of us who still have no idea where it is or unable to carve out the time and prep how this turns out.

I spent some time in Provo several years back and I remember thinking that you guys had every single restaurant chain known to man in that small town.

I was there the day Krispy Kreme opened!



For restaurants after the game, we generally would want something ethnically authentic, and not a chain.

The Bombay House at 500 N University Parkway has some good Indian food. There's also a Peruvian place at 340 East 1200 South in Orem called La Carreta (really good food, try the Saltado Mixto). There are plenty of good Thai places around, as well. If you're feeling in the mood for some American Bistro style food, Communal on 100 N University Parkway has kind of a cool atmosphere are great fresh, organic food and Dave and Kranky Chuckie's is a fun little place just south of campus (746 E 820 N Provo). There's also a "cute" (how my wife describes it) authentic Italian place called La Dolce Vita at 61 N 100 E.

Only place in town that fits that description is "J-Dawgs". 8) Seriously though, you should at least try J-Dawgs once while in town. It's really good stuff.



One of my favorites was the creamery on 9th "kids meal". (you don't have to be a kid to get it). Complete with fresh pressed burger on fresh bun, fries, drink and a scoop of BYU's awesome ice cream. When I was there it was less than 3$. That was 5 years ago, the dollar doesn't have it's same purchasing power unfortunately.

Good local ethnic cuisine:



Bombay House, as mentioned. Great Indian food. Authentic. As good as I had while living in London. My 13 year old daughter picked it for her Bday dinner tomorrow night.



Tocanos--if you want a different type of steak place, this Brazilian style restauarant is good and very popular. Will be packed after the game, too. Come hungry to get your moneys worth.



Mexican--sorry, the choices are mostly awful here, which is a sad truth. But for decent food, go to Cafe Rio. I suggest the steak tacos.



If you want a nice sit down meal from a local vendor who buys local and goes organic and fresh, go to Communal. It is a favorite in Provo. Same owner also owns a pizza joint that is good called Pizzeria 721



Other pizza option that is fresh and has some good desert pizzas is Malawi's pizza. It is near Tocanos in the RIver Bottoms Mall.



Italian--I prefer Gloria's Little Italy. Decent authentic italian. And the deserts there are awesome.

We made it back in Oregon in one piece. Thanks again for everyone's hospitality towards us. I wish we could have brought more followers but oh well. We all had a great time!
