Names Only A Parent Could Come Up With

So my daughter is in an office waiting and the office clerk comes out and calls for the next person. "Lady Nasty please." That piqued my daughter's interest to see who this Lady Nasty was. Up steps a woman and indignantly says "It's La Dynasty". Who names their kid La Dynasty? My sides have hurt all day....

Reminded me of when I worked at a hospital in Houston. A Hispanic non-English speaker had a daughter at this hospital. When the parents saw the birth certificate which said "female" they thought the hospital had already named their daughter Female (pronounced like Tamale).

My mom in law works at Children's Hospital in Akron. They brought in a baby girl named from something her mom heard during the delivery and liked the sound of.

When my wife and I decided to start having kids, I told her that she can name them whatever she wants as long as it follows these three simple ruless:



1) When someone hears it, they should be able to easily spell it

2) When someone sees the name written down there should be no question as to how it's pronounced

3) There should be no question whether it's a boy or a girl name.

I've heard that you can't legally name a child with numbers in the name. Some couple was denied the opportunity to name their girl "4Real" which I'm sure she is heartbroken about. I do think that you can have symbols in names legally though, like Ke$ha.

I think that said author of "Purple Rain" would likely have a hard time having his name/symbol be stated onto official government records, like a driver's license, social security card, or birth certificate. I think it would set a precedent for people to just make up nonsensical symbols that would make them hard to identify, which criminals would surely embrace. That said, I think that having a symbol that is actually used sometimes, which is incorporated into some part of an alphabet-based name, might still be okay. Things like : !@#$%^&*. I think the problem is when people just want the symbol, and numbers screw up database records and things like that



That said, I think that any other name he has been known by would work: Prince Rogers Nelson, Christopher, Alexander Nevermind, Joey Coco, The Artist Formerly Known as Prince, and then just 'The Artist'.

Big deal. Every time I raise global warming here I get pissed on ;) ;) Just joshing. On my mission I got chased into a house by a rabid dog. The homeowner did not know us but saw what was going to happen--getting mauled--so invited us in. We ended up giving a discussion. Don't recommend that as a way to get into a home but....it did work there!
