twwOkay who knows, it might all turn out to be really bad but there is a slim chance that there are benefits that could arise from Hill's injury, at least as for as future seasons are concerned.
Remember the story of James Braddock in the movie "Cinderella Man?" Braddock was a decent fighter for one reason, he had a powerful right hand that could put anyone on the mat. The problem was that he could never be a great fighter because he had a very week left jab. So when he broke his right hand in a fight everyone thought he was through as a fighter. For the next year or so Braddock went to work on the docks using only his left hand while his right hand healed. All of that heavy lifting with his left hand gave him a rock solid left hand jab. When he returned to fighting, he was unstoppable because he had become a complete fighter.
For the next six months Hill will be rehabbing his knee which may give him time to improve the rest of his game and become a smarter and better QB, especially throwing the ball.
Hopefully the coaches will also have learned a few things by then and BYU ends up with an offense and a QB that can score by passing with the ever present threat of Hill taking off and bursting for sixty yards. Just maybe we are seeing the last of the very flawed system of setting up the pass by running the QB.
Then again maybe no one learns anything and we see a continual procession QB's being put through a meat grinder and the life expectancy of the QB's is about three games.
But to clarify my point, if Hill didn't get hurt then he keeps running until he does get hurt. If the injury came i.e. in his junior year then that is really bad because there is no changing anything by then and he could end up with a very disappointing senior year. As a running quarterback he is going to be injured at some point. Getting hurt now could actually save the rest of his career by forcing him to make the passing game his strength instead of running.
