BYU will be ok, regardless of the QB.

We may not be great, but we'll get by.

We have one of the best defenses in the nation and one of the best in program history. We can stay in every game this year.

We have a solid running game - even without the threat of a running QB.

We have good TEs who can open up the middle of the field for whomever is playing QB.

We have playmakers at WR who can go up and make catches for whomever is playing QB.

We'll be ok.

Disagree.

O-line play is horrible. Riley has 3 cracked vertebra and won't be anywhere near 100% this season. If Lark also gets injured, who is left? Unless we have a back-up who surprises everyone and turns into the future of the program, we are and will be completely screwed at the QB position, not only for this year but a huge affect on next year.

This was supposed to be Hill's year to gain experience. Hard to do when you have a torn ACL and won't even be able to practice until fall ball at the soonest and it was his legs that helped him be so effective.

Riley will still be Riley. He will lose at ND and probably GT. He will make games closer than they should be. But most likely, he will get knocked out for the season sooner rather than later, and I actually hope it happens in minute 1 of the OSU game so we can get Lark in there. I am ready for a more traditional BYU offense.

If Lark then gets injured, WHO goes in. No one else has really taken any snaps, either in practice or in games.

Your thread should be " Our defense will keep us in games no matter what happens to our offense if we just punt on first down".

RN does not have cracked vertebra. That was an internet rumor and can not be true. I can't remember the medical term but it was soft tissue in the back that is painful but does not prevent him from playing. He needs to avoid hits if he wants to be effective. More passing and he has to move the ball around the field.

We're always "OK" but we were promised greatness. If we are undefeated at this point BCS title dreams are closer to reality going into next year. Didn't Bronco say it would take 2 great seasons just to get us into contention. We have a real possibility of going out on a sour note now..

Yeah, we looked really "ok, regardless of the QB" against Utah and BSU, that's for sure.

This team This year was not in any way shape or form positioned to be a NC contender, BCS Buster, or anything close to it - especially considering the schedule.

If Hoff and KVN go early NFL - given the 2013 schedule - BYU will be lucky to sniff a Bowl game let alone contend.

Get Real.

It would not matter who coached this offense - it would struggle. Kind of like 2010 - when we fired all of the coaches to fix a perceived coaching problem - fixed the D - made the offense worse.

Let's fire some more coaches.

I've settled in to realize that our defense is great and that the offense (or kicking game) is going to cost us some wins, BUT our defense is so awesome and fun to watch that I'm willing to go on the ride, knowing that we're capable of winning every game because of them.

We're a kicker away form being really respectible (top 20) and a Max Hall/John Beck from being a top 5 team.

We're 1. rileys bonehead mistakes or 2. a decent kicking game, (or a few better coaching decisions...)from being undefeated thus far. Our offense is mediocre at best, but our D is that good. We're going to be decent but not great all year.

I'm honestly not sure that Lark doesn't = Nelson = Hill as far as being able to win games; there's just not much separation between the 3 as far as what they can do right now (even if each do it a bit differently) (Though Nelson has shown he's capable of losing games too, which has to be a huge consideration). I'm not at all panicked that we might need Lark to finish this season.

It's a shame that our D has peaked in a year where they aren't getting support, but to address Bibs 2013 fears, I am optimistic about next years defense because I think that guys like kaufusi, peck, pikula, sorenson, bills, johnson (and fua if he puts on 15+ more lbs) are going to be studs. Holt is going to go to the dline and our D will again be the strength of the team next year. (I also think that KVN and Bronco have a special relationship and he'll stick around for next years schedule)

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. I heard several in the athletic dept, including someone who I won't mention, mention that this year was being positioned all along for a NC run or at least a serious run at undefeated. And while tough, this schedule could have promoted it. We could be 5-0 and in the top 15 if not top 10 and getting a lot of national attention.

This stellar D is knocking on one of the best years ever at BYU. But a bumbling OC constrained by a meddling, Riley loving HC, led by a D-II, injury prone QB and you have a total chance at a special season totally botched. Oh we'll get Over it because we love BYU. But to say in "no way shae or form" you do have your head somewhere, sand, on the Hill, wherever.

This team's chance for a NC ended when Riley Nelson didn't come out and play in the 2nd half of Weber St.

playing devils advocate here, what you're basically saying then is that it ended the moment the season started, because you can't run like he does and not get beat up.

I do think that with our defense, if we had a decent offense (and anything resembling a kicking game) we would be capable of beating anyone (except possibly bama) in a single game.

Ok Mr "Be of a good Cheer" I'll give you this one. :)

I'll be OK if the players pain and injuries havent occurred in vain; things will be OK if the ineptitudes don't go unanswered, unaddressed and unfixed. Doman had NO EXCUSES, nor Riley, this year and they have choked again and are trending downward. If Doman can pull out of this tailspin, then he has earned his position. But if he starts calling QB draws for Lark, I will leave my wife at home and start booing at LES. EARTH TO DOMAN.......!!!!!!

Wow. I've seen posts by people with their heads buried in the sand as well as posts by people with heads up their yewts. But never both at the same time. Well done.

Edit: I will add that it may very well be true that who plays @ QB if your argument is that we will lose the next 3 games no matter what and win the others. I think that's partially true-we likely lose the next three, with our best chance being @ GT. However, I think our chances of losing on the road to a decent San Jose State team increase. Idaho and New Mexico State are certain wins no matter what.

I'm not sure if this is in response to my post. If so, please note mine was a response to the OP. I didn't read any other posts in this thread.

Agreed. If he had cracked vertebrae there is no way he plays this saturday or in the utah or bsu games.

I don't agree. Riley would never have gotten us there. that is a pipe dream. max hall's offense with this defense might have though.

True and false, It sounds like he had a fracture of PART of his vertebrae, just a part that doesn't really play a significant role.
