Doman's offense

I am actually happy with the offense tonight. Yes, they didn't put up 50 points, it wasn't pretty at times but it was effective. We started a Freshman QB and a Freshman RB tonight and put up 145 yards rushing. According to the tweets on the side bar we put up More yards against USU than anyone (by49). We didn't give the ball away, we didn't give up a defensive score and we won. The offense wasn't pretty but it worked exactly like it is supposed to work. With more work and less mistakes on the offensive line we put up more points. The offensive line still remains a big concern.

Doman won't call as many QB runs when Taysom gets better at the throw game. We didn't QB run this much intentionally in the WSU game. Some of you guys can't see the forest for the trees. I agree, it wasn't pretty but it did work. I'm just concerned for the kid. Your body can only take so much pounding...ask Riley.

Lets face it. Doman is not a good offensive coordinator.

It worked because THill is a great athlete. Ths scheme sucks and will keep knocking out qb''s. If you take away Rileys run game--which should happen given he has three broken vertebrae-- and what do you have? An average passing arm and an average passing attack. Riley would not have won that game. A completely healthy Riley MIGHT have won.

Just as the D is the embodiment of Bronco, so is this O the embodiment of Doman. Too bad it's not his body getting banged up. It is who he is at his core. Bronco ball.

Doman's offense is a ball-hog offense. Keep the ball in the hands of the QB as much as possible and try to have him make ALL the plays.



Doman needs to figure out how to get the ball OUT of his QB's hands and into the other players more.

If I'm bronco, and I want any of my QBs to make it through more than 3 games this is what I decree. A 'running QB' can have no more than 8 running plays in a game and at least half of them must end by going out of bounds or sliding.

Hoffman had a good night. Apo needs the ball more. How about a screen play other than a bubble screen.

A Doman offense is an oxymoron. What offense?

Apo needs more balls down field. Almost all his throws are on short routes or bubble screens. He needs to stretch the field.

Agreed but they take more time and with our line, that could be a problem.

What is one way to counter lineman and linebackers passing through the line without being touched?



- Let them, and then throw the ball behind them, taking them out of the tackling game. Then you have a running back with the ball behind 3 Oline/TE, versus 3 safeties and corners.



I think that we might be the only team in the nation that doesn't run a HB screen to counter an aggressive defense.

Last year with Heaps at QB and we were running all those short screens and passes I was thinking it was to mostly protect Heaps but now it's becoming more obvious that Doman was and still is a large part of the problem. His decision making is atrocious and it appears he wasn't that great of a QB coach either. The probem is it that no way in heck Bronco has the balls to remove him. This is sad and our offense outside of Hill, and maybe Williams, seems defeated and this can be put squarely on Domans shoulders.

Could be a good idea. But I don't recall Apo EVER winning a 50/50 ball which are what the majority of Hill's long throws turn into. He doesn't have the "ball hawk" mentality that Hoffman has. So he needs to develop that or Hill/Nelson need to hit him in stride. Otherwise I don't see much merit to throwing to Apo downfield.

I don't recall Apo being thrown to downfield under RN. Seriously. He gets thrown to once or twice on screens, with the sissy blocking Hoffman out in front that let's his 5'4" dbacks get behind him and make tackles at the LOS.



Apo is a natural talent at catching the ball in the air. I have seen it. Just not from RN at quarterback.

One of my biggest gripes with Doman's playcalling is that it doesn't ever seem to allow the QB to get in a good passing rhythm. The only time BYU had any sort of passing rhythm was right before the end of the half, and it looked good. I recognized the USU defense contributed to the drive, but I'd like to see BYU try to maintain that sort of rhythm in the open parts of the game instead of just the end. Maybe Doman doesn't have the chops to direct that sort of passing game.

I'm fine with the shorter throws, they just need to throw more of the short ones to wide receivers who are YAC threats instead of tight ends who aren't. More hooks, outs, slants, and shallow crosses for the wide outs.

Pretty much agree with all of this. Doman needs to get creative with his offense, although I thought he had a good game plan (safe) against USU that allowed Hill to be comfortable. USU's defense deserves a lot of credit for their tackling at point of contact. They were good.
