Ga Tech not who we thought they were?

Not to look too far ahead, and not to be too much of a homer, but Georgia Tech does not look as daunting to me now as they did at the beginning of the year.

With our defense and their lack of defense this game seems much more winnable right now. Whether we can shock the world and beat ND or not, I like our chances at Ga Tech to finish out that road trip. Now bring on USU and Oregon State!

They've probably said similar things about us the past couple of weeks too. It will be interesting to see the identity our offense takes the next few weeks, but I like our chances in that game.

And to think of all the people excited about getting Georgia Tech on the schedule, but disappointed to see a series Middle Tennessee State.



I'm not nearly as worried about that game now. Especially since it was at home for GT.

I have had this down as a win for months now. Should be a relatively easy game. I saw all I needed to see from GTech when Utah beat them by 2 TD's or so a year or two ago. That, added with the fact that we absolutely crush the run, bodes well for us.

Middle Tennessee State won by running all over GT. Had a back go over 200 yards with 5 TDs. I'm thinking the blueprint for winning this game will be the same as the Hawaii game: run the ball on offense, clobber their offense with our defense.



And for those saying Middle Tennesee is not a disappointment, their lone loss is to McNeese St., a 1-AA school in southwest Louisiana. In a case of strange coincidence, I was in attendence at McNeese's game this week vs. Northwestern St. (Louisiana). They're about what you might expect from a 1-AA school. Above average defense, a couple of backs that make the opposing 1-AA defense look silly, mediocre passing game. I know that the transitive property does not hold in college football. But if McNeese was able to beat Middle Tennessee - and mostly with defense and the ground game - and GT wasn't, that means that GT has some serious trouble on defense and in the running game.

I'm feeling good about this one too. I hope my trip to see the Cougs play the Jackets works out better than the last time I made the trip.

I had them worse than Utah, BSU and ND. Thought would be our 4th toughest game. As of today, they are hte 6th toughest behind USU and Ore State as well.

GT is a great example of how a season can quickly spiral out of control if you let them. GT should have a better record than they do and have seemingly played better than their record would indicate. But when you lose games you shouldn't and don't win games you had a great chance to win, eventually things get out of hand.



Kind of like BYU in 2010 and 2011. Thankfully, we were - due to some good coaching decisions both years - able to salvage both those years.

Wow, I saw the one game vs Virgina and they looked powerful and dominant. Maybe VA just sucks. Or maybe the loss to Miami the week before MTSU crushed their hubris. ;-)

Same Utah team that beat us by 6 TDs IIRC. Yeah - that would cinch it. Oh 6 TDs at our house. Ok - it was only 41 points - not 42.

Our defense quit midway through the third quarter and basically let them walk into the endzone the rest of the night.

I am not taking anything for granted, especially given our history in big games and since this will be the second week out east.



If we are 6-2 going into that game with a nice top 20 ranking, we will get the best GT team that week.

Yes, I think the probability that we'll win is high, but it's still going to be a VERY physical game where the probability of injury is equally high so yes, probably a win, but not an easy one, and one that could cost us multiple starters for multiple weeks thereafter.
