Why not Hill at RB? (at least for this year)

Watching him play, he runs more physically than our other RBs for extra yardage. Williams is fast but doesn't have the same kind of physicality. Hill is practically the same size as Luke Staley, runs just as fast, and breaks more tackles. With Alisa probably out for a couple games, we will need more depth at this position. Either Nelson or Lark can pass just as good if not better than Hill. Hill has the upside of course, but the others have a lot more college experience. I see Hill more as an athlete than a pure QB. Lark fits the mold of the classic BYU QB, while Nelson is more like a FCS QB with FBS desire and brains. Lark currently has a 150 PER, but has only 12 attempts so far. The other two are in the 120 range.



How about this lineup:

QB: Nelson (with Lark as the backup, though he could just as well start)

RB: Hill, Williams, Foote

FB: Lasike, Mendenhall

TE: same as current

WRs: same as current



BYU needs to do something quickly with Oregon State, Georgia Tech, and Notre Dame coming up. We shouldn't let this epic defense go to waste on a 7-5 season of mediocrity.



BTW I haven't posted much on boards this season, but have watched every game. I can't get over how one side seems to be so dominant and the other so incompetent at times. The D shut out Boise freakin' State on the smurf turf and we still lost? Also our kickers have been the same for 4 years, and they still foul up games in the clutch. At least we get a refresh of talent next year.

+1. That is an astonishing feat for Bronco and the BYU defense. What we are watching, is probably the best defense that BYU has ever had. In the future - BYU's defenses will be compared to the 2012 Coug defense.

You leave Hill at QB because our offense runs much better with him playing QB. He is a better QB than Riley. As team captain the best place for Riley to be is the sideline as the starting high fiver for the players coming off the field.

Hill needs as much time at QB as possible. Williams needs as much time at RB as possible. Next season depends on it. This season as long as we get over 6 wins we're headed to the poinsetta bowl.

I'm with you on this. Hill needs to be focusing on learning as much as he can about the quarterback position, even if that's just watching Nelson make mistakes. Any time he would spend at RB is time he could be using to prep for the next 3 years.

Hill is our best QB and I don't even think it's close. He throws a beautiful ball (remember that perfect spiral on the left sideline that was a bit short to Hoffman?) and is probably the fastest player on the team. You can't keep someone this good on the sideline.

Nate Soelberg might have been the fastest player in the history of BYU football.













And he should have been kept on the sidelines a LOT more than he was.

Exactly. That's like, "Why not put Doman at RB?" "Because we have Staley - now we can use them BOTH!" I'm not a big fan of the hurt Riley / Alisa option play. But after the Hawaii game, I AM a big fan of some Hill / Williams option.



Shoot, while I'm going completely out of my mind and proposing things like running the option again at BYU, let's go all the way and run the wishbone! I'm proposing Hill at QB, Lasike at FB (with how he runs, he can be his own lead block), and Jamal Williams and JD Falslev at running back, with Ross Apo and Cody Hoffman at the receiver positions. Then, just run the triple option offense! Lasike will demand attention on the FB dive. Williams and Falslev have the speed to get outside on the option pitch, and Hill's enough of a run threat that you can't just take away the pitch. Oh, and pull Anae and let him kill people. As soon as they start stacking the box, you can work in the pass game. On press coverage, play action and throw it up for grabs to Hoffman or Apo, whoever's got single coverage. On loose coverage, immediately throw the smoke screen and let them make a play.
