Halftime Issues

Has anyone else noticed a pattern lately, that the 3rd quarter has produced some of our worst offensive execution? it's like we go into half time and read scripture or take a nap instead of making adjustments or motivational speeches.



1. Our offense shut down in the 3rd quarter against WaSU. Turns out it had nothing to do with closing the playbook and going conservative for future games.



2. Look at the 3rd quarter against the yewts the last 2 years, turnovers x 10!



3. And at Boise we started our first 3 drives with turnovers in the second half.



Coincidence..? I think not!



Poor halftime practices & Bronco's unwillingness to address the team at halftime = problematic...? I think so!

So Bronco needs to stop making adjustments at the half?

I say keep them out on the field running laps

If the adjustments he's making aren't doing are only causing confusion and/or impacting players negatively... Why not?

excellent observation. I remember LaVell saying the 1st possession of the second half was the most important of the game.



If Mendenhall was more proactive in the locker room at halftime, like before the goall ine stand at Boise, then maybe we are undefeated.

It'd be great if Bronco addressed the team with some passion. Something like how he rallied the defense for the goal line stand against Boise State. The best thing about that game was seeing Bronco celebrate Steve Young style after they held. He doesn't have to go throwing chairs against the wall, but reports are he doesn't say much. It was Collie taking that bull by the horns at half time against AFA in 2008 (?) that got us to pull out a win there.

Fire and bluster can be overused, of course. But I agree with the OP that the O, especially, seems to come out flat after the half. This may be more something for BD to address than Bronco.

Is it Bronco making half time adjustments for the offense or is it Doman?



Bronco has a defense he has to go in and coach at half time.



My suspicion is at the half we're usually in the lead or within reach. The O gets a talk about taking care of the ball, keep doing what they are doing and the points will come; just don't turn the ball over.



As a result they come out flat and non aggressive. In the 4th when the game is on the line and our backs are against the wall they start fighting like alley cats.



I hate the emphasis on execution and efficiency. This isn't a factory, it's football.

I jthink they listen to the "Sounds of Silence." or maybe "sounds of Sunday."

Ding! Ding! Ding! LaVell's staff was great at half time adjustments. This staff, not so much.
