I asked this rhetorically in another thread, but I'll ask for legitimate responses, if any in a new thread:

What has Brandon Doman done in his 17 games as offensive coordinator to give you confidence that he is the right guy for the job and that he should be retained in that role for the foreseeable future?

Well...he allowed one of the most highly regarded BYU recruits of all time to get chased off of the team by a Utah State QB...so there's that.

Seriously dude, if Riley "chased" Heaps off than we don't need him on the team. Heaps made his choice, if he were here, he probably would have had his redshirt pulled and would be our starting QB by now. Heaps removed himself from this QB thing, Brandon Doman and Bronco were meeting with him weekly trying to persuade him to stay and he still bailed the second the season was over. As far as the original question; I have my own question for the OP. What has Brandon doman done that would warrent that he not be given a bit more chance. Our offense has performed as good as it did under Anae and I would submit that if Anae had to start his time as OC with 2 unproven QB's instead of John Beck and then Max Hall to follow Beck, we would have all been calling for his Job a lot sooner.

Funny what a week will make, after the Weber state game the media was praising Doman for his offense saying that it looked creative and innovative. Now after having our starting QB get injured and unable to run the offense the way it was designed, everyone wants his job. I have said it a bunch of times before, if there is a criticism on the coaches it is insisting on using an injured starter over Healthy backups that are able to perform better due to health.

Which is why it IS fair to call out Coach Weber. His poor performance has been a constant for many years now. The Oline is the biggest issue we have right now.

Agreed, he should be on a very short leash and if the Oline doesn't improve over the year we should look for a new oline coach. IMO.

Why wait until the end of the year? Kick him to the curb now.

And replace him with whom? Wong is the only possibility that I see.

So far I haven't seen much to be impressed with. Offense has only gotten worse since he took over. Its not like he doesn't have talent to work with. Consider me unimpressed and worried.

He is dealing with good athletes. Maybe not the top, but really good ones. And a number of years has proven that he isn't the right fit. He doesn't have it. He needs to be replaced. Kicking him to the curb in a harsh way to put it, but Bronco did it to the DC, and needs to do it to Weber.

Wong is probably not a bad choice. Of course, there are likely others. We are generally not in the know who is available in that world.

Just incredible! Typical.

But to help out Y4Ever, because i agree with him. Jake got chased out of a starting position. Then he ran like hell, (with more class than most handled his transfer) because he could see the FUBAR future of this Offense, it's run-option crap, and playing second fiddle to a player that Bronco favored for a long time as is clearly evidenced currently, and who would get injured, rest, comeback for who knows how long, etc, etc. Carousel quarterbacking and fart away yet another, his Jr year playing backup to a utah state qb with an Oline that sucked eggs. He could hardly do worse be transferring.

I agree that an improved o-line would make both Riley and Doman look a lot better.

My question in response to this "honest question" is this is Doman better or worse an OC than RObert Anae? I don't know the answer to that, and I'd be interested to hear what the rest of you have to say.

Basically nothing. I hate to say that...but last week made me miss the down years of the Crowton offense. We could have at least passed for 100 yards.

Heaps actually left before the season was over leaving BYU without a back-up QB in the bowl game even though Nelson was playing injured then, too.

I would take Anae in 2011 and up to this moment. What I do not know is if this investment in Doman will result in more upside than Anae had. I think Anae had found his ceiling. IDK if Doman has a higher ceiling. I wish Bronco had more offense experience as his mentor. But, then, Lavell was a DC as well.

Gettin deep! Really deep! Left with MORE CLASS - before the bowl game where there was a high likelihood that he might be needed. But, then he never was a team first guy.

COULD HARDLY DO WORSE

This is my favorite. U following KU this year. I am not following closely, but I have noticed that they can't seem to beat anybody OOC and are not likely to fare well in Big 12. No FUBAR to worry about over at Kansas. Luckily, Heaps is getting that much needed red-shirt season and should get 2 years as a staryet and he should be ready to go by the time he is eligible. And maybe some JC transfers in his supporting cast can shore things up a bit. But sorry DM - he could do much worse by transferring. His team is losing to really bad teams - badly. His old team is two plays away from being undefeated.

To go along with this, why can't Bronco, as a defensive guy, help the offense by designing plays that a defensive guy would have trouble coaching against? It seems like it could be turned to an advantage to have a defensive coach helping on offense. If you can be a defensive genious why can't you be an offensive guy as well?

Robert Anae inherited John Beck and Max hall. He also iniherited Curtis brown and Jeff Grimes. Harvey Unga came in Bronco's 1st recruiting class. When Max Hall graduated we had a "weak armed utah state cast off" (according to some posters) and an arrogant Freshman who made it clear that he was going to transfer if he couldn't start. I don't know how good Doman is going to be but I think we would all be a lot happier with him if he had a John beck/curtis brown combo with the offensive line that Jeff Grimes had built.

I would like to say I am surprised by the Heaps discussion, but I'm not. How easily we forget that Heaps was a disaster playing against poor competition. At least Riley, when healthy, beat those teams. With Heaps as QB, we would have lost a couple more games last year. Heaps was, is, and will be a disaster.

The problem isn't just the QB play. If Riley was healthy we would have beaten UT and BSU, but that would have masked the real problem. The problem is two fold:

1. Our O-Line is a disaster

2. Our preparation on offense is very poor

It was the same with Anae, so I don't know who is better. Both Anae and Doman have shown they don't know how to prepare a team.

I would say the common denominator here is an HC who is arrogant and believes that he can do things better than everyone else, though the results scream otherwise. His pride and arrogance is going to be his downfall.

I finally admitted to myself the other day that I am feeling the same sense of foreboding that I felt before Crowton was fired. We are in a downward spiral and it will get worse before it gets better. :~(

Here's an interesting question to ask yourself - would you trade a loss to Utah State last year for wins over BSU and :utard: this year? That might just be the exchange that we made, but in the other direction. All that we needed was just a teeny tiny bit more offense in both of those games to win.

That did work very well for Lavell Edwards - DC turned into the HC that revolutionized offense in college football - but usually struggled a bit on defense, ironically.
