Mid Tennessee State 2013-2014

Announced a 1-1 schedule starting next year. They are in Sun Belt and this year is 128 Sagrain 2-1 record currently.

“Historically, I don’t like to do the home schedule out very far, but we got caught a little bit by the nine-game (Sun Belt) schedule,” Massaro said. “I like flexibility and having a spot available in case you can get a home-and-home with a school that has an opening and they’re desperate to get it filled. It’s good to have some leverage there.”

This. I get bringing them to Provo. We need a manageable game in 2013. I do not get traveling there. Not that we can't win there. Maybe they have a bigger stadium than what conclusion I have jumped to. Maybe this provides a chance for all of our fans in that area - but do we really have that many fans in that part of the country. Might have been an opportunity for an un-neutral site game in Las Vegas or San Diego. Ok - bias on my part - I live nearby.



How far will BYU fans travel to see MTSU - We may have some fans desperate to see a live game out that way since we do not go out there often.



Anyway. Nice filler. About like NMSU, Idaho, Idaho State, and Weber State - just farther away and a tiny bit more dangerous since Football is life in that part of the country.

Their stadium holds 30,788--obviously the reason for the home and home is not very many teams still are willing or able to give up a road game for next year. The price for them doing so is a return game. Everyone on your schedule can't be a huge name. With only 5 home games on the schedule for next year currently (Texas, Boise State, Georgia Tech, Utah, Mid Tennessee), expect another non-wow home game to get added. Less than 1 year out there aren't that many openings for "big" teams. And with the scheduling agreements and some conferences going to 9 conf games BYU very well may need to end up joining a conference to keep their schedule respectable.

Karl Benson is the commish of the Sun Belt now. Willing to bet he swung this game for us. HE has worked well with BYU.



I have no problem with this. At all. I hate 2 for 1s, for and in favor of us. 1:1 is fine. Just win both.

I sure hope they get another "non-wow" home game. Look at those teams, BYU could easily be 0-4. Hello we can't over schedule ourselves, and right now looking at the 2013 schedule that is exactly what is happening. If they dont get another easier win team in next year they could be looking at 1 home win next year. And yes BYU is desperate I can't believe that anyone would think otherwise. All you have to do is look at how many threads on here are calling for Broncos head and then tell me the fans wouldn't complain. Fact is this. If BYU got into the BIG12 they might not win any games for a couple years. And the fans would complain. If they got into the BIG EAST the fans would complain. Staying indi with a less than desirable schedule the fans complained. And when they play there 2013 schedule and possible struggle to achieve .500 the fans will complain.

Mid Tenn is a good pickup for next years schedule but go ahead and complain about it too.

I hope we get NMSU and Idaho on the schedule again for next year. Seriously. We are going to need some cupcakes in between Texas and Boise State and road games at Houston, Wisconsin and Notre Dame.

No, I don't want bama or Oregon. I'm worried enough about our schedule as it is. But I do have a problem with us signing a h:h with a sunbelt school.



And the AD from mtsu flat out said it was good to have open spots because teams get desperate, implying the byu was desperate. And that is a problem. How are we ever going to get h:h with bigger programs (I.e. Programs that we want to believe are on our level) if we are so desperate that we are signing h:h with a team like mtsu?



Like it or not, cfball is a beauty pageant. And that scheduling move just made us look like the plain Jane wallflower that's desperate for a date.

Sweet! This is less than two hours from my home, and just around the corner from Nashville. Should be plenty of BYU fans there. I'm not sure where I'm going, if anywhere next year, but last year I went to Ole Miss and this year to Georgia Tech. It seems I have picked a good place in the South to live for these games are all within 4 hours.



If anyone has Holmoe's ear, Vanderbilt is just an hour and a half away, Knoxville is less then 4 hours, and Birminham (UAB) is only an hour and a half away. Tuscaloosa is two hours away, but we should probably pass on that one for a while.

Sunbelt is okay if we get their best team to play. A rating of 128 is on the weak side.

If we are still 2 games short of a home football schedule that is less than 1 year away then, yes, we are desperate to fill out the 2013 schedule. The price to fill it is a return trip in 2014--when we still have games we need to fill out too. Whoever assumed it was going to be easy to fill out the schedule with all tough games and teams was underestimating the ease of college football scheduling.

I imagine Holmoe could find a school on the level of Middle Tennessee State where we could get a 1 and done. But, as others have said, we need away games too. It's about filling up our independent schedule. And any game played in the South is good.



Anyone looking objectively at the scheduling from 2013 and forward really can't find anything wrong with it. And obviously those who were against independence from the beginning are not looking at it objectively.

For road games where is the priority? Is it Texas, the Sound, East coast? Should we go to midwest? I would have preferred Troy or Ohio based on their rating. I would prefer a deal with the Sun Belt conference to play their best team.

In terms of recruiting talent, at least, the priority should be in California, Texas, and Florida/the South.



In terms of exposure, that's going to generally come with our partnership with ESPN. But especially when we're playing the more marquee teams in their big venues. Particularly those that have the big fan bases and TV markets.



One of the the things I like about the 2013 schedule is how we're spreading ourselves around, i.e. games against the PAC 12, Big 12, Big 10, Big East, ACC, WAC, MWC, USA, Sun, and Notre Dame.
